Has any one used the Firestik DS14-FG (cell look alike) non-ground plane anttena?
I have a "lil wil" but the base is cracked, and I'm looking for a shorter one, so that I do not have to remove it to pull into my car port.
This claims I can mount it to my camper top and it's only 18" tall. I wouldn't put one of these styles that you can get from Wal-mart, but this one from Firestik with the specific cable seems like it would out perform ones from Wal-mart. I don't use my cb other than on road trips and occasional chatter. I don't use it on trails or off-roading.

    Thanks for any input!

I don't have the exact model that you mentioned but I do have a firestik ngp antenna and it works great. It should be fine for your needs.

I don't remember the model number but it is the 4 foot ngp antenna kit. On the right channel radios it is the only firestik ngp kit they offer.

What I'm looking at is the "NGP 14" fold down kit" on Righ Channel Radio's site.

It is my understanding that when you add fold downs, springs and etc. it screws with the SWR. Of course I may be wrong

it does a little bit. those items prevent you from getting the lowest possible SWR (at least on an NGP antenna). i have a fold down adapter and i got the SWR on mine down to 1.6.

Do y'alls fold down adapters have play when antenna is up? I have an adapter for 3' Wilson fiberglass that hasn't been mounted yet but when attached to the antenna and held by adapter, I can tell it's going to have play where it'll vibrate or move a bit. Not sure if I'm going to use it or just put disconnect on antenna ground wire where I can just take it off and put it behind the seat when not in use.

I had a similar through the glass cellular look antenna and it was garbage. I would stick with the little wil. Not to mention the fact that you have to drill a hole to mount that fire stik. .02
