Anyone ever use TPMS straps from Discount Tire?

just wondering how reliable they are....

Pretty straight forward a metal strap that goes around the center section of the hoop. It holds the tpms sensor internally so it can read PSI and use regular valve stems.

They work.

Why are you switching to them did you break a stem off or aftermarket wheels?

I am not sure which brand discount uses but they stand behind their products

You have to make sure you let them know every time you have work done because if thy dismount the tire without knowing they will most likely break the sensor. I worked there for 6 years, the straps are fine.

 

I have had them for 40k miles with no issues

 

Is there a supply of aftermarket TPMS sensors that will work with those? I would like them for my winter tires.

They will work with any and all sensors.

 

so my steel wheels should work perfectly fine with discount's bands? thanks

i dont think they will work will they? the angle degree is different on the steelies than the factory alloys, i have heardof some people using the factory ones but reversing them 180 degrees....does that really work?

 

Discount will try that first, and then will use straps if the 180 doesn't work out. That's what they did for me.

 

The angle is slightly different but if you use the rebuild kits for aluminum wheels they seal up and work fine. Done that many many times.

if you tell them you want the steel bands they will do that first. The bands are more expensive than the rebuild kits and if you want to pay for them, they will gladly put them in for you.

Op, do you have steel rims and stock sensors? I fail to understand why you need the bands.

 

Hayes, I currently have stock steel wheels 16" with the original sensors in them.

 

You are the first one I've ever heard who has said that using the 40 degree steel sensors works with the alloy wheels.

 

I've read where the steel 40's can be turned to fit alloys, but don't know anyone personally, that has done it.
Maybe that's part of the kit fix.

Yeah I have heard that they can be flipped 180, but that's not what hayes was suggesting above, the way I read it. Sounds like he was saying you just mount them normal and you can live with the mouthing angle difference of 20 degrees.

 

KPT...would you suggest instead using the strap kits? seems like you have had good luck
