How can Cali be the most liberal state in America and have laws like that?

When I was a lifeguard part of our training was knowing the consent laws. At the time in NJ the age of consent was 16 but the guy couldn't be more than 4 years older until she's 18.

So it went 16/20, 17/21, 18/me now.

California isn't the most liberal state. Outside of the major metropolitan areas (SF, LA), it actually turns pretty conservative. San Diego has traditionally been more conservative but it is starting to swing toward liberal. Plus for the most part our governors have been Republican.

 

Oregon is MUCH more liberal than us. They got lots of trees to hug.
