Agreed, I tried running a heat gun off of it to debadge my truck and kept shutting off, I dont know if the heat gun required more than the 400 but I was a bit disappointed. The gun was a cheap one anyway

I gotta lookup the mod for always having the 400w mode available. Of course I do carry a 700w unit that connects to my battery. :)

I think I will deck my truck out with jingle bell lights this year, put that outlet to use for once, 25 ft should be more than enough:D

i think it was PSUtaco something username (anthony real name) that made that, and it was in the cheap mods section but i just went to find it for you and the thread seems to have been deleted. the link is still there but it goes to no thread specified for it. i'll look into it further.

and OP, don't get too reliable on it, like they said, it sucks. when i went to uwharrie with some of these guys i tried to use my coffee maker in camp the next morning. i didn't think it would work but i had to try it. plugged it in, the light came on (excited!!), put in the grounds and water, hit start (anxious!!), flips off (sad). . . . . . the most ive ever ran off of it was a 10 watt electric guitar amp.

no i was talking about the light on my coffee maker. i plugged it in and the clock came on. then when i hit the button to start percolating the water it drew too much power and kicked off. .....i turned on my truck, hit the button for the inverter, plugged in my coffee maker and then did all that stuff i said.

and won't it work if the key is turned but the engine is off? i'm 90% sure i've ran computer speakers off of it (was fishing at night with the laptop playing on the tailgate) and it worked then. . . . killed the battery in 30 minutes but it did work haha.

lol, a coffee maker. Awesome :)

Check out this chart of average wattages for appliances. Anything that 'heats' (heat gun, coffee maker) is going to draw too much for the thing.

    http://www.donrowe.com/inverters/usage_chart.html

I'm considering upgrading the inverter just in case I ever need it. It's on the list.
