In 36 years as a Cop and a 20 year military career there isn't much I haven't seen (or done, for that matter), but when it comes to having eaten things that most people haven't eaten I've got two:

While working in a med-evac unit as a Medical Corpsman during the Vietnam War I stopped in the Philippines. Myself, a USMC Staff Sergeant, and another Corpsman went out to a village for dinner. The other Corpsman was Filipino so we had him order- great food! Some type of stew over rice- delicious. When I asked what kind of meat it was he told me it was "Aso"- I found out later that meant "Dog". I had nightmares for two weeks about some poor Filipino kid sitting on his porch calling for "Sparky" his dog.

About a year ago I was in Kazakhstan, out to lunch with the interpreter for the class I was teaching. I let him order- again great food- some type of stew. When I asked he told me it was "Horsemeat Ghoulash". I told my wife when I got home but begged her not to mention it to our grandkids.

I took a blood sample from a guy who was high on PCP, hogtied in the back of a police cruiser. I think he must have had some gnarly bruises the next morning-I went through 3 needles:eek:

    - Held and played with a baby lion (16weeks old)

    - Was shot in the stomach with a fire work, friend didn't place it in ground deep enough. One of those ones that shoot off then explode with the big bang, we call em sonic bombs here. Didn't have a scratch on me, tiny lil heat rash, but a massive hole blown out of the front of my shirt. Devine intervention??

    - Watched a building be demo'd

very sad to hear man. when i was 17, about a month before i was supposed to join the airforce, i was cutting down a tree with my dad in the backyard. my dad was on top of a 25 foot extension ladder and he tied the branch off so it did not hit the house. the branch kicked back and hit the ladder, and my dad fell 25 feet. the second he hit the ground, he could not move any part of his body besides his head. we called paramedics and they arrived very shortly after. he spent 4 months in a hospital bed and 5 months in a rehabilitation center to try to get some movement back.

he is still to this day in a wheelchair. he can stand with a cane for about 10 minutes but then his energy is spent and he has to sit back down.

i can only imagine how you feel shark, i almost lost my dad forever, right before i left for the military, which would have left my mom alone.
i thank god that my dad is still alive to bitch and complain to me that i was such an ass of a kid lol
