About to order an ARB deluxe bumper and have questions..

Currently I have 5100's all around, eibach springs set at 0, and the TSB leaf pack in the back. I'd love to buy the OME 2" lift, but I can't make myself spend the money on that. I'm trying to keep the front end from sagging. If I set the 5100's at 0.85 will I stay where I'm at now, or sag?

If it will sag, what are my options? Can I use an OME spring up front instead of the eibach for the time being?

I have a decent load in the bed so the back end looks low in this picture.

 

i have a 6" fabtech lift with bilsteins 5100's and my front struts are bottoming out so i am going to buy coilovers cant stand to drive my truck with that noise from the shock assembly might want to think about coilovers more weight than you think up front i have an arb bumper with m-8000 warn not a happy camper need more investment on coilovers

 

I did OME shocks and coils, same company as ARB so it's good to go with a company that knows the weight load of their bumpers. I also did UCAs and have been very happy with my set up.

 

As above , the OME 886 coils and shocks are specifically designed for use with the ARB bumper

 

I bit the bullet and ordered the full OME suspension with the heavy springs and the ARB deluxe bumper. I'll get the foglights later. Can't wait!

 

Did you get the Dakars ?

 

Yup, OME all the way around including the Dakars.

 

Check out the thread " Axle shims and Dakars " and install the centre pin collars before you install the Dakars , this will allow you to use axle shims later if you get vibes .

if youve got the paper to buy a ARB bumper, The OME kit shouldnt be a problem. It would have been an easier purchase if you had bought the lift kit before you bought the Billys but i say wait a week or two and purchase both. It will be worth it in the long run and you can probably recoop some of that by selling the billys on the buy section. Thats just my opinion. I prefer to either go all out or not at all with my truck. No half assin it

 

When you get a chance I'd appreciate that link. I think I found what you where talking about but want to be sure. The issue the shims correct is the angle of the driveshaft to the rear end, correct? That's where people get vibrations from?

Yeah, I thought that the billies would be enough for me, but you can see how that turned out. I got a small bonus from my company which prompted the ARB purchase, then the thought that the billies wouldn't be sufficient. Oh well. Someone is going to get a good deal on some slightly used billies and TSB springs.

 

You want to get centre pin collars to extend the distance that the leaf pack will seat into the axle , this will allow you to use axle shims if needed .

Ok, the center pin collars are on order. I'm going to stop by the dealer and order the bushings for the rear of the leafs later today. I've seen some install longer brake lines, is that necessary?

Anything else I'm missing for the install?

I ordered my ARB from AutoAnything, and I was expecting the latest version with the fog light recesses. What I got was the old style. Guess I didn't pay close enough attention to the part number on AutoAnything's website.

 

Not necessary but highly recommended.

 

If anyone else is needing the center bolt extenders check with your local spring shop shop if one is local to you.
Mine were .75 each from Oregon Auto Spring. They may ship, can't confirm.
Also degree shims are much cheaper from OAS and also available in steel which could then be welded to the perch if needed.
He said they would custom cut the steel shims for $14-$15 and that they had the garden variety aluminum ones for less.

 

I didnt need shims and most people don't, they seem to be hit and miss. Try it without them first. Longer brake lines are not really needed either, just make a little spacer to go under your brake line mountin bracket on the rear axle. My lines dont even get tight under full flex with Dakars.

 

There is a pretty big difference in price between the two. It should have been obvious you weren't getting the deluxe.

 

It was $900ish before shipping. But there are a few factors that lead to my receiving what I wasn't expecting.

When their product page A) shows the pics of the Deluxe bull bar, B) specifically calls the product the Deluxe bull bar, C) states the product has fog light recesses which are only available on the Deluxe bull bar, D) specifically mentions that if you select the model without fog lights, it comes with caps for covering the holes in the fog light recesses, and E) does not list a part for the product, I guess it's not as obvious as you might think.

I'm certainly no dummy - Based on the listed info, I "obviously" thought I was ordering what was in the product description.

After going back through my stuff to look for a part number after the fact, it doesn't show up until you've added it to the cart and are checking out. Obviously I missed it, so I'm not placing 100% blame on AutoAnything. I clearly didn't pay close enough attention since I obviously missed that part number that didn't show up until later, but you have to admit, with A, B, C, D, & E above, you can't honestly state that they're 100% innocent in the matter, either.

Their product page is misleading, at best. I sent them an email about it (simply informing them of the fucked-up product page, not demanding anything), but I never heard anything back from them. Whatever. I took the bumper and installed it and sold the ARB fog lights I was originally planning on installing.

To make matters worse, let's assign a little bit of blame to ARB and their sometimes-convoluted ways of naming things. I'm pretty sure when most folks familiar with ARB's products hear "Bull Bar", they think of the old school plain black non-fog-lighted models. Likewise, when they hear "Deluxe Bull Bar", they think of ARBs newfangled bull bars with the fog light receptacles. Pretty sure this is how ARB used to differentiate the products, as well, but I guess I could be wrong...

Well, I was checking out ARB's literature - specifically their Vehicle Application Guide - when I came to the realization that ARB has started calling both the old and new versions of the bull bar the Deluxe model!

So yeah, screwed up deal all around. Moral of the story - pay attention to the part numbers, and pay attention to every step of the ordering process.

By the way, the OP stated he ordered 3423030, so that's the part number for the old style bumper without fog lights. Interested in seeing if that's what he was expecting.

That linked page comes up when Googling "ARB 3423030", the part number for the old style bull bar, and that page actually lists the part number both in the title and product description... however, this part number isn't anywhere to be found when navigating from within their website. So three different times in the same product description, it says it has the fog light openings. If one was casually shopping and not aware of different part numbers, they're going to be a surprised as I was when I tore into my bigass $1000 box.
