1st Generation, front alloy wheels spotting

Fellas, I am experiencing horrible black spots accumulating on my front factory alloy rims on my 04 PreRunner D-cab. It has to be caused from the disc brakes up front, but I cant get it to clean off. I tried some black magic wheel cleaner, and the spotting was not even phased by it. What can I use to get rid of these black spots. No painting suggestions please! Check out the picture to see what I'm talkin bout........ This was taken today AFTER they were washed.

 

Mine did the same thing. My solution was to get new wheels. As I understand it, that is an accumulation of the brake pad material which gets mixed with cleaners and other solvents. It basically makes a material like linoleum flooring. Try some soft scrub, or white compound on a wet rag. The mild abrasive should get rid of it.

 

try cleaning them with hot soapy water and some eagle1 all wheel cleaner, and a scrub brush. then........dry them and try a light polishing compound. may do the trick.

 

my dad went to the local toyota dealer about it, and they said the techs use brake kleen.

Mine did it, i wound up just painting them flat black

 

get some glass stove top cleaner. it will remove the stain and not scratch the rims' surface. i put a dap on a piece of old t-shirt an rub until the stain is gone, then buff.

 

try some acid on it. they use it at dealerships to clean wheels on cars.

 

That just doesn't sound good

 

yeah ill never use it on my aluminum wheels. but its ok for painted. but you just cant leave it on too long.

 

mr.clean majic eraser worked great on my rims.

 

This going to sound stupid.

But i used a steamer. Yes, a steamer, like the tiger shark. It takes a min but got everything off my rims.

 

That doesn't sound stupid, it's a pretty good idea.

 

These are some great ideas....

My solution was = get set of steel wheels, paint yearly.

 

No offense, but steel wheels scream "Cheap" to me. I won't go that route.

 

No offense taken but factory rims are nothing to write home about either. Cheap they were but cheap looking they are not. They look sweet on my black truck though. I am not talking about your standard spare tire black rim. Waaaay too much maintenance to keep the factory rims looking good up here in Canada with all the road salt in the winter...

 

I have some wheels that may fit if you want to buy them!

 

I think the factory alloy wheels are SWEET! To each his own, I recon.

 

I picked up some Armor All wheel cleaner, and supprisingly, it did a pretty decent job at removing the larger brake dust deposits. I may hit the front wheels with some clay bar, down the road to totally eliminate the spots.

 

baking sode and water. makea paste and use a wet towel to apply...
Make take some time.

But i like the steamer Idea the best...
