Wierd start up this morning. Help

So I hit some pretty deep mud yesterday at Gorman. Truck drove right out of it, drove good home, no problems. I got in it this morning, started her right up, no problems. I pushed in the clutch and went to take off and the truck wasnt moving. I thought I left the parking brake on but nope, brake was off. So knew something was wrong right away. I gave it a little more gas and heard a couple pops, sounded like they were coming from towards the front of the truck but not certain on the origin of the sound. Gave it a little more gas and heard more pops and it stared rolling forward. Took it through the gears, no problems, shifted smoothly and no weird noises during my drive to work. So I am thinking that the poping was either ice or mud that had frozen over last night and breaking free. Im really hoping that it was just around the drive shaft or something, please tell me that it isnt somewhere that is going to be a problem.

 

Was it that cold in Bakersfield where ice that thick would even form? I don't even have frost on my lawn yet.

 

There was Ice on my windshield, and frost on the lawn, my dog's water bowl had a nice layer on it the other night so it is getting cold in the nights so I think it would be safe to assume that ice is a possibility.

 

Ill see if it makes the same sound when I leave in the afternoon, I doubt it will, will not know for sure till tomorrow morning again, anymore input from anyone? Appreciate it.

 

Sounds like your clutch was stuck. I wouldn't worry too much about it if it drives/shifts normally for the rest of the week. See if it does that again later on a cold start, both in the afternoon after work and again in tomorrow morning.

Should do just fine.

Did you high side?

 

Yeah thats me, no I didnt high side, just lost focus and got target fixation and hit a mound on the side of the road and just flipped over.

Maybe you're brake drums were stuck?

 

Would that happen if the brake pedal wasn't depressed all night?

 

If there are little chunks of dried up mud underneath where you parked your truck at night, then it was probably that.

 

I looked back after driving off to see if anything fell down and didn't notice anything, Ill check as soon as I get home though.

 

dried or frozen mud(depending on how cold it was) was probably in your brakes. I had the same thing happen to a buddy that got stuck in the mud and let his car sit for a bit when he got it home. probably wouldn't hurt to take your wheels off and clean the front and rear brake system to make sure all the rocks and dirt are out.

 

Thanks Scott, will definitly have to investt in a pressure washer now if thats the case.

 

Came home and there were two spots about exactly where my wheels would have been that there was dirt at, probably was just in the brakes, phheww. Ill see how it goes tomorrow morning to make sure.

 

Just a quick update, no problems this morning, it was indeed that rock solid Gorman mud that was causing the problem.
