I'd like to bring up an interesting point and get your reaction. The protesters that blocked the free movement of the officers are guilty of a felonious crime. Blocking someone's free movement, like the protesters did, is a civil rights violation, no? I view it as "false imprisonment."

If a police officer unlawfully blocked a citizen's movement all hell would brake loose. Money would be paid out.

An individual does not relinquish his or her civil rights simply by putting on a badge.

I'm completely satisfied with how law enforcement handled the UC Davis protesters. Well done.

    Did you watch the video?

If someone did something to you or your gf/wife or your property and the police came and arrested the person, and a bunch of his 'friends' acted like a bunch of thugs, trying to coerce the cops into letting the person go, how would you feel then?

Sorry, my words didn't do my thoughts justice, I was typing hastily. What I mean is that, yes it was a passively done, but they physically obstructed the path of officers by sitting in their way and refusing to move. Clearly they didn't physically touch the police, however their physical presence stopped them from doing their job/leaving. They did not allow the police to leave due to their ring of dread-locks and hemp (to be clear, I did not observe dread-locks and hemp, I was stereo typing, I should also add it was probably a smelly ring of hippies).

Completely agreed, I felt the officers then should have proceeded to arrest them after pepper-spraying them.

Bunch of "thugs"? Paranoia will destroy you. Cops totally overreacted, period. These were students, not the Sinaloa cartel. Not the LA riots. Know your audience. No one touched them. No one threw anything. Nor did I see the cops make any actual reasonable non-violent effort to walk out of the very porous circle.

I know the protests at Davis. I'm a Davis graduate. And I also know the majority of the campus cops are good people just trying to put food on the table like the rest of us. In my opinion it's too bad the cops don't sit down and join the protests. Their ranks will be thinning through budget cuts soon enough too.

But bottom line is this was an overreaction.

For those who really want to know what Occupy is about, and why even the cops should be sitting in with them... Check this.

    http://www.slate.com/articles/busin...ic_about_their_hush_hush_bailout_scheme_.html

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...congress-gave-banks-13-billion-in-income.html

And for those who prefer a more conservative voice ...

    http://thebroadside.freedomblogging.com/2011/11/29/common-cause-with-occupy-wall-street/

    And I quote...

"When it’s all said and done, the Big Six [JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup,Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley] took 63 percent of the funds you and I will be paying for, and worse, through secrecy, chicanery and manipulation they managed not just to avoid bankruptcy, they all managed to grow substantially, collectively by some $2.5 trillion dollars, or 39 percent, between 2006 and 2011 ... the Big Six banks that should have been shut down by the Federal Reserve and the FDIC because they were failing and genuinely under-capitalized, were instead not just saved at public expense, but were given preeminent position in our banking economy."

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I think each of you should write down or print out what you wrote and bring it back out in 20 years to compare with how you feel then.
I am clearly old enough to be your father. For most of you anyway.

I have to say, in my opinion, the police handled this poorly and the students won big time.

Removing them one by one should have been the action taken. If a student resists or lays hand on an officer then the officer would clearly be justified to use some type of force or chemical to restrain and remove the protester. The public saw, regardless how, that the students sat there and received pepper spray. The public did not see the students threaten the police. If you think name calling is a threat then I feel bad for you. A gesture would be a threat. Contact is a threat. Me calling someone a pig is not a threat.

I do not agree with the protesters. I wish they'd all go home. My plan for here in NY would be to cut them off. No supplies. No porta potties. No free wifi. When the temp dips to 20 degrees and it begins to rain they'll leave.
If they block a road we remove them by calming walking up and take them by the arm and help them get out of the way. If they resist that then we can take them to jail. They'll think long and hard about that mistake. Clearly a bunch of ignorant misguided individuals.
Having said that I keep in mind that we became a county violently. We abolished slavery violently. Women earned the right to vote nearly violently and I'm sure if we all knew more about that we'd be surprised.

Keep voicing your opinions because it is your right and a great way to learn how other people think.

No I only wish it would snow so I could test out my new sneakers.

    ;)

    On that I would agree.

You may soon enough. Read the Bloomberg story posted above. You can't go home if you don't have one.

    Amen to that. Well put.

I agree one a few points:
    1) parts of our gen DO suck ass, you dont get what you have without working for it, fuck handouts.
    2) The pepper spray might be justified, but not the holding kids mouths open and directly spraying it down throats and in eyes.
    3) The kids should be out there looking for work instead of rallying on not finding jobs.

Edit: also 4: having been at the opposing ends of bean bags, tazers, and pepper spray. I'll take the bean bags and tazers over pepper spray any day. never tried rubber bullets before though

Well I have to say here that I am on team people. Ask yourselves the questions what would you get arrested for? What in this world would you fight for the death for?

If a guy at the bar grabbed your gf/wifes butt would you beat the crap out of him and risk an assault charge.. or call the police and make an attempt at pressing charges. Personally I would give the guy a few sharp shots to the mouth. If I get charged for it..so be it. Someone breaks in to my house and I use "Excessive Force" and get charged so be it (I am in Canada we have shitty laws about home defence up here).

If the government all of a sudden decided to ban the internet or say you are not allowed out of your house between 10pm and 6am.. would you protest? I know these are pretty out rageous claims, but I'm sure the people protesting feel just as threatened or outraged about their treatment.

The reason I am on team people is that one day when/if I am ever protesting for something I believe in or is dear to me, I pray to god I do not get pepper sprayed, bean bag shot, tasered back in to submission.

If I had a 17 year old daughter and she was protesting for whatever the fuck she believes in no matter how rediculous.. i really pray the police would not pepper spray her, belt her with battons etc. Problems can be solved without force.

From this video I see a massive disbalance in power and response to unarmed kids trying to make a point. And who gives a shit what the point is.. even if it is for more fucking handouts. You still have a right to protest.

The reason they were pepper sprayed is not because they were protesting, but because they were trapping the police (wrongful imprisonment) and not allowing them to do their job. Protest all you want, for whatever reason you want, but when you stop the police from doing their job, then you are obstructing justice. The people being arrested had been given fair notice that they were to leave or be arrested. They chose to stay there and be arrested.

I agree with you that there may come a point where we need to stand up against "the man" because what they are doing is unjust and wrong. This is not one of those times.

At that point they weren't chanting for the hand outs, it was "F the police" and "We are not letting you go"? I know not everyone there agreed with the "F the police" chants.

To add to this ^, disrupt the public and interfere with justice. You still have to obey the laws.

Obstructing police? They couldn't have walked around them or thru them?
There really has to be a different way than walking up to a line of people and just nailing them with pepper spray..
