    I searched but didn't see any second gen threads on this. I'll be fabbing up a spare tire mount for my bed very soon and have a pretty good idea how i'm doing it, just looking to see what everybody else has done.

    Thanks. It's worked out really well. I figured at some point I'd need to bolt it to the bed but there's been no need. Even when wheeling through rough river beds it hasn't moved. I don't think I'd jump without bolting it down but my truck isn't build for jumping anyway. Checkout Metalmiller's new mount. It looks super simple and apparently it holds up well.

    I got my idea from Rubie. Used some hinges from Northern Tool to lift it out of the way when I need the whole bed.
    I used 1" flat bar and cut it so it would slide in the bed rails. Then welded the bolt head to it so I could tighten the hinges down. It works great so far.

    The next 2 pics show the tire lifted up so the bed space below can be used. I used a piece of left over square tube to go across the bed to support the tire.

    I like the set up. I have been thinking about mounting a high lift to mine on the front near the cab.

    you'll like it on the rack. i used to have mine mounted to the roof rack, but it's jsut sooooo much easier to acess on the trail when it's right there at chest level.

    Agreed. I have mine mounted in the passenger side tie-down track. easy to get out when needed.

    both for clearance and the fact that if you need it out on the trails, there is a very good chance that the situation that caused you to need a spare is also preventing you from getting it out from under the truck. it's also much easier to secure a larger tire in ways like the pictures show.

    A couple reasons for me. Getting the spare from under the truck on a trail ain't all that easy, full sized spare doesn't fit very well and I mounted the air tank for the onboard air where the spare should be.

    crossbars are 1.25, 14g square tube. the center piece is 2x3x14. bump the cross bars to 12guage if you can though. i'm going to be stiffening them up a littlehortly s. with the stock spare it wasn't an issue, but once you have a D range 33 up there, it bounces a little when you get over about 45mph off road, or jumping at all.
