Switched From AT&T iPhone to Verizon Razr

After 26 years with same cell carrier, I switched from an AT&T iPhone 3GS to a Motorola Razr with Verizon ...

It is a little scary for me because I have Apples, like their simplicity, wanted a 4G LTE cell phone.

Can any of the Android and/or Razr users suggest how I can learn this model phone & android system faster ..... example ... backing up phone on apple laptops and simple tasks that I did on iTunes ...

Switching from AT&T to Verizon was a no brainer for me, because of the coverage difference in my area. Since I wanted to taste 4 LTE, I had no choice but to change from apple.

With an average skill level ... are there any web sites, forums (ANYTHING wound be appreciated) that will speed up this learning process ... thanks ...

And is there anything that I should be careful about (certain programs, etc.) ... with iPhones, most of the programs on iTunes were very safe.

PS ... Video tutorials (like Apple has) would be fantastic ... thanks again ...

It seems to be a good phone and hope that is works as well as the iPhones have in the past. My wife switched too and she got the Droid Biotic. This is her first "smart phone" and she is like a kid a candy store with it.

I was "grandfathered on unlimited bandwidth" from AT&T, but my cell signal (where I needed it most) was not that great and I had to switch to Verizon. We did get in on the "double GB bandwidth sale" but I will miss the unlimited and need to watch how much bandwidth that I use now.

So far, we like Verizon better (for our area), but need we need to learn this new Google O/S.

FWIW .. always had an "Otter Box" case and put one on this phone at the Verizon store. The past Otter Boxes saved my azz many times and my AT&T 3GS is still in perfect condition after 2 years.

Android os seems to be very intuitive, Motorola makes great phones. That razr is the one I am eyeing). Seems like you made a good choice.

... ^^^ ... 1985 and it was a Panasonic (if I remember) about the size of a big telephone book was my first cell phone (a corded handset like a regular telephone hooked to a big black battery box with an antenna on the side that flipped up) ...

First day and I like this Razr phone, just need to learn how to use it.

PS ... If you get one, the best investment you could make would be an "Otter Box".

Syncing is as simple as mounting your SD card as a disk drive and copy and pasting the files you want to move.

Android Forums is a good place to learn about your phone.

I would not download any non trusted apps (your phone is defaulted this way out of the box). You must check the box saying you will allow them to be downloaded, otherwise, you don't even see them. It is also a good idea to look at the permissions each time you download an app, if you see any red flags, I wouldn't download. I will note that I have never had any issue with any of the apps.

Congrats on a getting a good phone. You can not beat the speeds of LTE. I picked up a Rezound a couple weeks ago and I am blown away by this phone.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that it could synch'ed with a cable to the laptop ... kinda like iPhone and a cable via iTunes.

I love the speed, but so far ... it is more complex to use and set up.

Maybe I am a "iPhone Whimp" ... and this Razr is perhaps too complicated for me ... some things I can't get to work.

Since our new contract with Verizon is only 2 days old ... called Verizon and they said I could return the Razr for an iPhone and pay the difference.

Maybe this thread should be titled ... "Switched From AT&T iPhone to Verizon Razr and then to Verizon iPhone". ...

Dooode. Take the time and learn the andriod features. It's a lot more logical and business oriented, but IMO once you know it, it operates better than an iPhone.

 

I have the Razr and love it. My first android phone was the Moto Droid 1 and fell in love. Honestly look up videos for it on youtube. If I can find the video that convinced me to get the razr over the bionic ill post it on here

 

If you want to stick with LTE, you should look into the HTC Rezound. I believe you have 14 days to exchange the phone for something else. HTC overlay's their phones with HTC Sense. Sense is like an extension of my brain (very easy to use, and compared to my iPod touch, the Rezound is much easier for me to use). Motorola is more of what they call "Vanilla" Android. Everyone has their personal preference. My wife has a Motorola Android and while her phone is a little complicated to me, she loves it. Good luck with what you decide.

 

I've had an iPhone 3G for 2 years. I love the simplicity. Great phone. If I were you I'd just return it and pay the difference. iPhone 4S FTW! Just upgraded last week.

 

I switched from a Droid 1 i bought on launch date, Nov 2009 from verizon

To a Iphone 4S with verizon yesterday.

I also bought a macbook pro on sunday, so im trying hard to figure this apple shit out.

Apple's market revolves around "simplicity" ever since the iMac. However in my opinion, its too "simple" that it annoys me... one button, wtf? But if you were to compare the two phones, the Razr exceeds the iPhone in almost every aspect, the trick is knowing how to use it. The Razr can do just about anything an iPhone can as well and droids have a larger app market, especially free apps.

Main thing to know is the four buttons on the bottom. Home, Back, Menu/Settings, Search. The home button is just like that one single button on the iphone, it returns you to the home screen. The back button returns you to wherever you were before where you are currently, one step at a time (hope that makes sense). It can also close you out of where you are at. The menu/settings button is useful for just about any app or page that your currently at to bring up the options, preferences, or settings. And the search button well... searches. You can search for specific words in a long list of txt messages from a friend, type a URL, or search contacts, etc... Thats pretty much the basics. Remember too that if you hold something on the touch screen for a couple of seconds it can bring up options too.

A couple things that might help... download the app called "boat browser", its a similar browser to iphone... might make things easier. Android is open source which means just about anything on the phone can be changed, you can make almost everything on your home screen look like an iphone if you wanted to. It would just be a theme to download on the app market.

Hope this helps, it just takes getting used to. Also as mentioned before... look up youtube videos for help.

 

I'm glad I waited for the next iPhone, which will have LTE reportedly.
