look dude i only aim to help here when i say this but, andrew may infact be completely wrong on this.

i know he works at trs i have dealt with him many times he is a really nice guy but, if you look at your projectors in that picture do you see how they are plastic on the front portion of the projector and lens holder also they are an open design that allows all that heat to escape into your housing in a concentrated way not evenly dispersed like it would be in a factory reflector. the heat from a 55 watt set-up is pretty dramatic brother it might be ok now but, once the projectors get some hours on them it could present a problem down the road.

i know this for a fact was an issue on the last generation of mini projectors both the H1 and the d2s.

edit: you also have 35 watt bulbs with your 5five ballast? they will return a shorter lifespan and color shift more dramatically. trs sells a 55 watt specific bulb that is beefed up to handle the extra juice. ie, thicker glass tube and electrode and the base may even be beefier to handle the heat i'm positive about this because those are the ballast and bulbs i run in my fx-rs. idk what to tell you man if your happy then it's your truck the retro fit it self looks really great man so your work turned out awesome i just don't want to see you have any problems with it buddy thats all.

i was told some thing completely different only a month or so ago but maybe the latest generation minis have better plastics on them or something i would double check with trs and a professional retrofitter myself though.

    thanks hans :)

I am taking your advise, i just ordered the 35 watt ballasts.. I talked to matt, he said there shouldn't be a problem, but running 35 watt will for sure not get as hot and it will give off about the same light...

cool yeah buddy i just didn't want you to run into any problems the 2012 housing is not going to be easy to replace if you had to take them apart for some reason. everytime you manipulate the housing it just gets worse from there lol.

i know you can run them in the minis theoretically but, it may cause problems. the H1 and the fx-r are pretty much identical in terms of performance so i had originally wanted to get those due to their cheaper price but, i was told i could not run those projectors with the 5five ballast due to the projector being plastic and an open design.

while the fx-r is a sealed all cast metal unit even the lens holder is metal on the fx-r so they can do the 5five ballast with out any issues but then your out of the easy to retrofit mini territory and your cutting your reflector bowl up and stuff.

either way this seems like a good course of action the 3fives are very bright as well man your eyes most likely will not even be able to tell the difference and your eliminating the possibility of a catastrophic projector melt down in the process.

glad i could help out dude, hans

I am amazed on the housing, its not even sealed really least from the back,

I havent set the lights up yet, height, , the bottom bolt sets the height right? and the top one is left/right ?

I wont use the lights till the 35 watt comes in and at least its a simple switch out :)

correct the bottom bolt does the height adjustment. the top bolt brings the projectors either in or out on a horizontal plane sort of like crossing your eyes.

don't get me wrong here you could run the lights in the mean time if your had to i don't think you would immediately torch them but, down the road a bit in a few months after some hours are on the set-up it would probably lead to problems.

btw i had spent all this time talking about the wattage and stuff i forgot to mention that projectors look bad ass on the 2012 dude! thats looking pretty good i tend to black lights out but, i'm digging the chome stock look of yours man it's not as severe and lloks nice and clean good choice :)

lol the housings on the tacomas suck period man oem or not. the oem housings are like 460 shipped and thats a conservative price and unfortunately they are the best thing to use when spending the money for all these quality parts most of the time you don't even need extra sealant you can just reuse what was already in there by replacing the lens.

for what they are though i was shocked at their price tag.

I sealed them before i mounted. Also its under solid metal, so there is no way for water to get to this area....
