If the biker build offs purpose was to see which bike could go the farthest or be the most comfortable, then hell put a damn hybrid engine in it. Jesses bike was a plain jane bike that you could see something similar at your local biker bar. Jr could have built that bike with his eyes closed. This competition was to see who could fabricate the nicest looking bike, and obviously Jr did that by far.

Yet again ignorance to the fact that this was a build off to see who could build the nicest looking bike, not who could go the damn furthest

    This ^^^^

The build off isnt to simply make an "Every day" bike, but to exploit the tallents of the builders. JJ fell flat, as his bike was a "run of the mill" design. Yes, the Stainless steel frame was nice, but thats about all that set it apart. Sienor built a WTF. Jr. and his team really pushed the limits of detail, functionality, and art. No, you cant ride it day to day (not further than 20 miles or so anyway), but look at many automotive "One offs". They are made to simply show off the tallents of the designers. Jr.'s bike did exactly that.

There were 2 main (huge) problems with this "build off".

    1) It wasn't Jessie vs Paul Jr vs Paul SR, it was PJD vs OCC vs Jessie (and his eventual help)

    2) there were no set judging criteria other then "what fans vote for"

With respect to #1 if it was man vs man vs man, JJ would win hands down. I do not think Paul Sr or Jr have the blacksmith skills, and complete skill set that JJ has. Sr does have metal work experience, but nothing compared to JJ

For #2, PJD had the "coolest" looking bike there, and he won. I think they should have a build off where there are set criteria .. Bike must be a custom chopper, able to drive 100 miles per tank, must be ride-able and reliable etc. Then have a panel of motor cycle judges judge the bikes without knowing who built what bike, and then allow fans to vote too.

The only problem with the above is there is no money to be made if they cant make a TV show about it. I think JJ did this to get his name back out there, get back into the game, and show people he can still do it.

With all of that said, I loved the PJD bike, but respect the level of craftsmanship that JJ put into his

these bikes are really about "art" when it comes down to it, at least in my opinion, because they speak to your soul. so it's kind of silly to be saying whose "art" is "better". art, like custom bikes, is about personal preference and what appeals to you. which may not appeal to the next guy. some people like modern art. some people like classical art. some people like other art. is one better than the other? impossible to say because it's subjective. and i think it's a good thing everybody doesn't find the same exact thing to their liking or the world would be a pretty dull place.

this is why i have no respect for anyone - especially jj - who claims that "their" brand of art is "better" than someone else's. it's arrogance at it's most extreme. just build your bike and let it speak for itself. if people like your artwork, great. if not, shut the F up. making this into a "competition" is really just done for ratings and tv revenue.

personally i think that whole argument about jj being the only "true" fabricator is a crock of shit. he doesn't build his engines, he doesn't build his transmissions, he doesn't build anything pjd or occ doesn't build except the frame. big f'ing deal. i guarantee you either of those shops could build their own frames and the reason they don't comes down to money. it's cheaper to have someone else build them. there is plenty of custom fabrication that goes on in all of those bikes. if there wasn't, anyone could put one together slapping parts on a bike, and that just isn't the case.

i envy anyone who has the skill to build their own motorcycle. i couldn't do it, not in a million years. i'm glad there are many bike builders out there doing what they love. and that's really what it's all about.

The original "Biker Build Off" series on Discovery Channel required the builders to compete a long journey with their bike for it to be counted for competition.

Alot of PJD's custom fabrication consisted of calling up other companies to make their shit or cut something on the waterjet. OCC had all outside vendors make their shit. Jesse made the frame, tank, oil tank, front end, assembled the wheels, fenders all from Stainless steel which is a tough metal to work with.

This show was all about ratings, plain and simple...

I don't know if PJD and OCC make anything other than the tank.

I agree, there should have been a least a set of guidelines to follow. I don't know what that thing was OCC built. The show was "Biker Buildoff" Senior should have shot down Jason's design, it should not have gotten off the floor.
I also noticed Rick was not smiling much at the end. I think he wants out.
maybe the will be the premis for next season.

    ignorance? really?

the Build off should have been about functionality, reliability, and style. Not just style alone IMO

    Occ builds their own frames...

From a motorcycle rider's perspective, James' bike was best.

From a wicked cool looking bike, pjd's bike was best.

Senior's bike think was dumb. He built it so if he lost, he could chock it up to the weird freaking design so he didn't have to own up to building crap.

As for attitudes. Jj is a douche. Always has been. Senior cant accept the fact that junior was a big part of the success of occ. senior plays the victim, but is a real asshole. He acts like he isn't causing the problems, yet he can't say a single good thing about his sons.

Junior has always been humble in his new business venture, giving the credit to his team. He built a wicked cool bike, but he won because people like to like him. His attitude plays into his success.

I hate how clients go into occ and bad mouth pjd, but it's never the other way around. I think senior tells them to bad mouth pjd.

It was a bling contest and Jr's bike was more blingy PERIOD!

Senior showed up with a science experiment to a motorcycle contest.

Jesse showed up with a fully hand built bike that was functional but really missed out on the eye candy factor.

Like I already said in another forum it was like comparing Apples to Oranges and one Fig, lol.

This "Build Off" did exactly what the network wanted it to do. It got all of us talking about it and glued to our TVs to see what happens, and I'm sure we'll all be watching future episodes to see the aftermath. It was all for ratings.

OK, here's the deal. You have a TV show on the Discovery channel, (American Chopper) which segues into "Senior VS. Junior", much to the delight of Discovery channel, since Am Chopper was getting stale. Now, Sr VS. Jr is getting stale (Mikey Tuetel was stale about 4 seasons ago). Now throw Jesse James into the mix who was on Discovery years ago and recently on L.A. Ink and of course the Sandra Bullock thing, right ?

So the producers are happy as hogs in slop, right ? If only OCC, PJD and JJ would agree to a "build-off" to prove who's the best bike builder, and BAMM, they do. Now we have a fantistic show with a live ending in Vegas of all places. But why weren't other bike builders invited to participate ? Matt Hotch, Dave Perowitz, Billy Lane, Indian Larry's shop, Chico, the British dude ?

Yeah, the voting was screwy as are all shows, they don't tell us how many were cast, like American Idol, X factor etc. Just that so-n-so won. All 3 builds were really amazing, but, Sr's was something way out in left field, like you gonna ride that thing down the highway for a 100 miles ? In that position ? And the flame thrower blowing back in your face ? I mean, come on, get real. PJD's bike isn't practical for riding around. You wanna' leave it parked outside Wal-Mart while you shop ? Now, JJ's scooter was, IMO, the best. He truly built it, by himself and can ride it to Sturgis if he wants. Sr and Jr. don't even ride, except around their shop to test and onto the stage at unveilings. And this phoney kiss and make up thing with Jr. and Sr. last night. What a farce. I admire JJ's moxey, the boy's got balls, but is really dumb when it comes to women !

Pretty sure he at least made custom spoke wheels

You can't hate on jj for being blunt. He just doesn't give a shit and he'll tell you how he feels. Cocky, yeah sure but he DOES build the bikes and has the skill to back it up. Call it arrogant if you want, bet you wont say it to his face though.

Yeah OCC doesn't build wheels, they draw them in CAD and let a machine cut them. I doubt any of those retards (with the exception of Rick, the only talented one there) knows how to lace a set of spoked wheels.

Haha good point. Rick and actually senior if told to build a bike would build one along the lines of jessies. Back on AC when sr did build bikes HIS bikes were all old school with sissy bars. Even said on the show he'd put jessies in his garage
