Someone needs to call the Sheriff directly - get someone involved to actually purchase one from the guy, pick it up,and question him about them.

Do the tailgates have VIN numbers hidden anywhere?

    Keep us updated!

all body panels have self sacrificing id stickers on them-they are usually little grey and white dealios. Email the guy and ask him to send you a picture of the ID sticker... "to confirm it is a genuine Toyota part" should work. He's probably not all that smart if he's using ebay to move stolen vehicle parts.

I suppose it's also possible they were from front end collisions, but again 5 in in 2 months? I have yet to see a wrecked 05+ Tacoma anywhere around here and we have snow, black ice, etc several months out of the year. Hell, it's damn near impossible to find much of ANYTHING Toyota in the yards around here! I'm still looking for door handles for my 98 Corolla. You'd think after 10 years there would be some in the junk yards, but no. People are still driving the damn things!

Definitely possible but unlikely. All that needs to be done is Ebay needs to ask a few questions and show a sticker. Ebay has every right to since you're using their site. If the cops contact him and they aren't stolen I'm sure he can prove. It's just very suspicious.

Short story: Next door neighbor has 5 sets of wheels in his garage. A set was stolen out of a shed 3 doors down. A cop drove through the neighborhood and saw the wheels in my neighbors garage so he stopped to ask a few questions. Once he saw they didn't match the stolen ones, done deal. Moral of the story: A few questions never hurt anyone.

We busted one of these fuckers before on TTORA. I cant remember how many tailgates the guy had sold, but he was selling for like over $250 each.

Every Tailgate should have a VIN sticker. Here's a pic of mine. If he can't take a pic because, well let's say he broke his camera, then he should be able to give you a VIN number off the tailgate itself. If there was only a way to verify that VIN to a "Hot List".

Another interesting thing, may have been mentioned is looking at the tails he all ready sold one has a sticker from a dealer in Georgia, how do you end up with a "like new" tail gate from a truck that was sold in Georgia. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck... It must be CHICKEN!

My question: Do you have the VIN for this item? I will need it before I can bid on it.

    Answer I just received: Yes.

Second question just sent: And that number would be?

I have to head out for a couple hours. I'll post the response, if any, when I get back.

And why not sell them at $300 each?

It costs a business in overhead to store them.
