For 2011 / 2012 Owners: Outside Mirror Vibe

For those of you who've purchased a new Tacoma recently. Any issues with your outside mirrors vibrating? Mine have been getting progressively worse. Look in the mirror on the highway and check out a car or sign in your mirrors...Here's a link to the original thread I started:

Please call Toyota at (800) 331-4331 if your mirrors vibrate! They have no fix and this has been driving me crazy!

FYI...Most every 2010 that I or the dealer has checked has had loose / vibrating mirrors. Toyota is aware of the issue but, "Not enough people are complaining."

No vibes on my 2012, thankfully

 

My 07 has it. I dunno how bad yours is but I just live with it.

 

2011 here, it vibrates on the highway but I assumed that was normal. My last truck was an S10, and I couldn't see anything at freeway speed because of the mirror shake. It was all a blur. How much shake is normal? Should it not be moving at all?

mine is only at highway speeds but i figured its standard.

I can't say that I've ever noticed it.

My driver side mirror does it but it's more like a frequency vib which goes and comes only at highway speed only...Thought it was normal!

 

No. I don't think it should be moving at all! Typically with this issue the drivers side mirror vibrates more than the passenger side. That may be something you want to check.

My 2010 Taurus mirrors are rock solid. Same with previous vehicles I've owned, a 2000 GMC Sonoma and a 2003 GMC Envoy. Hell...How about a 1975 Monte Carlo and 1985 Monte Carlo SS?! Mirrors were perfect. My brother has a 2000 Chevy 3/4 ton with solid mirrors. Some vehicles (the Tundra comes to mind) had a problem with the mirror housing becoming loose. A torx screw could be tightened. This is a problem with the snap fit between the glass and housing.

Again...Toyota has acknowledged the problem. If your mirrors are vibrating, please give them a call.

My 05 mirrors were doing the same thing. Found out that the three bolts holding them to the door were loose. Pull the Lil covers and check the bolts!!

 

Already done...Not the bolts that hold the housing to the door.

Anyone else have vibrating outside mirrors?

IIRC my 05's mirror would shake some on the highway. It shook even worse with crosswinds/headwinds.

2012. haven't noticed. i'll have to pay attention tomorrow when i'm on the interstate.

 

there is a small cover on the underside of the mirror. if you pop it off, there is a (allen) bolt i believe. all you have to do is tighten it up and it SHOULD fix the problem. im not saying it will, but it should

 

I actually referenced this earlier in this post (Tundra's). It's a Torx screw I believe and does not fix the problem. I tried this within a month of owning the vehicle...

Have you checked the 2 inside the little cover thing on the bottom of the mirror on the outside? Mine were a little loose and tightening those up made it all better. Check those on both sides. Need a pick or something to get the cover thing off. The ones inside the sail panel holding the mirror to the door were tight.
