I’m about to make a few purchases, have read numerous threads, and just want you knowledgeable folks of TW (aside from that one guy…) to double-check my gear and give advice.

I want my truck to be shy of an expedition, meaning ultimately to take me off the map and into lonely camping spots.

Does this sound like it’ll all work for a 2011 OR access cab?

2.5” Kings up front w/ 700lb coils set at 2”
    TC uca’s
    Icon AAL (already have TSB)
BFG KM2s 255/85/16 (really wanted Duratracs, though)
    DO plate bumper
    DO hybrid sliders w/ kickouts
    ATO skids (full)

Think I’d need to regear if I go w/ the 255s? I’ve read a lot of threads so far and none give anything solid.

Thoughts on all of this? Missing anything? Any way to save money?

For an AC, and 700lb due to the plate bumper, armor, me (200lbs), and maybe a winch later. Still too much?

Was thinking a Rigid somewhere down the line...

heheh Yeah, that's what I've been looking at. Need to be sure my suspension can handle the weight, and that sticker shock doesn't set in before I have time to spend the money.

    Hell, I'm guessing, too!

I got the 700# coils for my DCSB cause I am prepping for armor also. It'll ride a bit stiff till you get the weight on.

So jealous, was wondering about the gearing with 255/85/16 also. I think that's is 8.5% increase in circumference. Sounds like you are on the right track can't wait to see the end result.

I think the Kings maybe overkill for what you are gonna use the truck for. You could save some coin on cheaper coilovers and pick up more self recovery gear since it sounds like you will wheel solo some.

    Cool

Good to know. You getting a bumper, too?

    HAAAA! :p

Yeah, heard it may not be necessary a few times. Am probably gonna wait out this current gearing GB and see how badly it affects things.

Was thinking that, too. Read a few things btwn Fox/Icon/Kings and even though it was close it sounded like Kings were ultimately best. Am still pricing this stuff out, so may dump down Kings in the rear. Will definitely being doing solo trips. Hmmm...

Thanks for the thoughts so far, guys. Keep 'em coming!

Bumper and winch...Been spending too much money on the truck recently though. Might not be till around tax season when I get mine. Ordering ATO skids and about to get my B.A.M.F. sliders put on. Figured getting that stuff done 1st would be best.

    Two questions, guys:

    1) Will my stock OR suspension be good enough to hold the Demello hoop bumper and welded sliders until my new suspension arrives, or will they sag too much?

    2) I ended up ordering extended Kings in the rear for the TSB & AAL. How much lift in the rear do you think this will give me? Separately, would a Dakar pack would be better?

    Whaddya ya'll think?

Good enough for what? It certainly won't kill you. You'll obviously lose a little clearance.

Shocks do not affect lift height.

Advice: Go ahead and shell out for the Dakars. You can do it now or you can do it in a couple years when your stock Toyota leafs are shot. Ask me how I know.

Lift height will be whatever the add a leaf gives you minus extra armor weight. What are you doing about the rear bumper anyway?

I just didn't want them to strain too much, start bottoming out over street bumps, and possibly bust them. They only have to last for 2 more weeks or so.

Hmmm.... always thought I didn't want an aal, so may look more into the Dakars. I'll have a 500lb bike in the bed a number of times.

Unsure when the ATO/BAMF skids are coming in. I expect after the New Year. Only ever wanted about 2"-3" of lift, but WITH rake (nose low). Rear bumper would be bought last (mid-next year), and I have my eye on the Relentless.

Aside form the ARB stuff, these stock bumpers don't weigh too much less than plate bumpers, do they?

Stock front bumper is about 30lbs. Plate front is 100+. Skid plate is another 55 to 75.

Stock rear is about 90 *if you have a hitch*, so you're trading some weight there. If no hitch, you're deleting less.

Armor adds about two to three passengers' worth of weight to your truck. You will lose about 1/3 your payload with a fully armored truck.

^^ Alright, sounds good and doable for a few weeks for the stock shocks.

So, DSM has to order rear Kings, and is worried, like I am, about the length of my stock rears. I measured (three times) yesterday from bolt-to-bolt, and came out w/ 20.5" driver's rear, and 21.5" passenger rear. Level surfaces, two different locations, same numbers every time. DSM thinks this would've been taken care of w/ my 2011. Any experiences or other measurements from anyone else?

Best thing to do is take the shocks off and articulate the rear suspension. Measure from shock mount eyelet to shock bucket eyelet when the suspension is fully compressed and when it is fully drooped.

This is the suspension travel, but we want the shock to have more stroke than that, since we don't want it limiting suspension travel. That's what bumpstops are for.

So get shocks with a stroke that's 1-2" longer than your suspension travel. Make sure compressed length of the shock is about .5 to 1 inches shorter than your compressed suspension measurement, and same for full droop - .5 to 1" longer shock than suspension travel. You need extra stroke on either end to ensure the shock is not bottoming out when the suspension is at either end range of travel.

Thus, your expensive shock doesn't act as a bumpstop, which will quickly tear it apart.
