Need a sub-conpact. 380, 357 sig, 9mm, or what?

I've never shot any of these rounds. I have an XD 40, but I want a sub compact now.

Can anybody give me ups and downs of each? Why do you prefer this one over this one?

Also, not only the caliber, but a gun as well. The only handgun I've shot is my XD and a friends glock (I don't know which model). I have a revolver already too, so I'd like to keep it semi auto. Looking to keep the price in the 450 and lower range, but I'll check out others if they are "worth it". Not a fan of how glocks fit in my hand. But I'd get a sub compact XD if I can't find another. I'd like to stay away from having two almost identical guns just so I can spread the love a bit.

honestly why not just get a XDsc? then any holster you have will work with both guns....same ammo etc

 

I was gonna look through some other guns before I ended up getting one similar to what I have now. That's all. If I don't come across one I like, then I'll end up with the XDsc.

 

glock 26/7, they're quite a bit smaller than the XDsc

If all your gonna do is shoot it at the range then I would say get a SC version of what you have now but in 9mm (cheaper to shoot).

I got a .380 BC I wanted a pocket pistol. I ended up with the S&W bodygaurd .380
Its been back to the factory to have repairs done after about 100 rounds. the slide stop screw came lose and would not allow me to chamber a round and the laser screw was lose as well and was very hard to press.

If I was looking for a pocket gun i would either get the Kimber solo 9 or the sig P238.

My Ruger LCP 380, up close it's accurate, very light, easily CCW in summer. Love it.

 

I have one too and its a great gun to conceal and I love it, but I would not recommend it for just shooting around on the range. Get yourself a nice subcompact 9mm. Since you don't like glocks, and what to try something other than the XD's, check out the S&W M&P 9c

 

I have a taurus tcp .380 and its not a bad pocket pistol. Only carry it when i cant carry anything bigger.

 

yeah that recall is from 2 year ago...almost 99.99999999999999percent of guns you could still find now wouldnt be effected

 

ive shot rugers glocks and walthers... i own a glock which is alright but id try a walther what ever u do dont get anything in a 9mm unless just target shooting

 

ive got a ruger sr9c and im a fan of it. not a bad gun for the price. check it out.

I carry a Khar CW9. It's a nice carry piece and has never had a problem with a few thousand rounds through it but it's not fun to shoot. After 200 rounds your wrist will hate you. Accurate for its size and easy to conceal (I'm 5'4", 145lbs).
9mm is cheap to shoot and is a great zombiepocalypse round cause you can find them anywhere

 

I always have my Sig P230 with me.Always.When size is an issue,that may be all I have on me,but it is always close.Great gun,trigger,and accuracy..380acp., is somewhat dicey ,but put it where you should and it will do fine.

Unless you want to beat yourself to death stear clear of the 357sig!!! Great round but not a sub compact round. I vote Karh CW9 or if you want smaller CM9. I have the Taurus 738 and it has worked flawlessly and drops right in my pocket. I will be getting either the CW9 or CW40. Only buy something of this size if you are going to carry it. These are not range guns. I shoot my 738 about 50 rounds and thats it. If you want a range gun get an XDm 9 or XD Tactical in 9. Great shooting guns. I work part time at a gun shop and I see people all the time wanting a subcompact for home defence and they don't realize how hard they are to handle while shooting. I've seen a lot of Glocks and XD's come back for the exact reason. Good luck let us know what you pick up!

Even .40 is too much recoil for a subcompact.
Stick with 9mm.
I have a Kahr PM9 and it is perfect for cc....single stack is all I would buy.

 

There isn't a whole lot of fun to be had by shooting a subcompact at the range. Trust me I have 2 that I have to qualify with yearly with the Sheriff's office. Plus I shoot at least once a month. The xd is fine, but any small frame auto is going to be snappy.

I have a .40 xdsc and a Keltec P3AT .380. I live in FL and in the summer the dress code is shorts and a tee. Usually no belt so the .380 in a pocket holster works great.

In the cooler months I go for the .40 as I can wear clothing to conceal it.

A good in between would be a single stack 9mm. There are many choices, hold a couple and see which one fits your hand better.

 

The other option for range and plinking would be a 22LR bc ammo is way cheap. A Walther P22 is a blast to shoot and relatively accurate. Box of 500 rounds around $20.
