Installing Gooseneck Hitch

So I was at one of those markets where they sell purses the other day and in the back of the guy's truck he had a gooseneck hitch and he said he'd sell it to me for $50. In an effort to save $$$$ I've been making my own mounting brackets. At first I just had it fashioned like a "clamp" onto my composite bed but then the bed liner snapped and the trailer neck slid down and slammed into my tailgate bending it pretty bad. So my question is... What is the best way to mount one of these things up?

 

I have nothing relevant to add but wanted to ask what are you towing with a gooseneck with your Tacoma?

if your towing a gooseneck you need a bigger truck

 

I have always been amazed at how many Toyota Hilux trucks with gooseneck trailers I have seen now. Most of them have been wood hauling trucks with small goosenecks and a few 2 place horse trailers. When I was in Montana several ranchers in the area were running Tundras with Featherlite goosenecks as ranch pick ups. Would I install one in my 2nd gen? I think not....

 

Goosenecks are generally for heavier duty trucks. I've never seen one attached to a tacoma. Might be interesting to see if it could handle it.

 

I would not put that in my tacoma it would probly do more damage than just a bent tailgate

 

It could handle the hitch, it just depends on what you hook up to

your trying to hurt someone. theres no way of getting around how it needs to be mounted, only way you can save $$ is welding it yourself, but yeah get a bigger truck if your putting a gooseneck in.

i really hope not...fashioning a clamp to attach a gooseneck is all i can do
