    so, one thing i noticed, everyone carries flashlights that take batteries, but batteries die after a while especially when exposed to heat and cold, why doesnt anyone have the crank flash lights? unless i missed it?

    crank lights are a good idea. We keep a crank latern in the house that has a built in radio.

    I have 5 flashlights in my truck, so if all 5 are dead then I am in trouble :eek: :D

    Why mess with cranking at all? I found these on my favorite sleeping bag makers site and tried them. Work great and require no batteries or cranking. Use them for better than 75% of what I would use a flashlight for anyway.

    Yep, three years old and still good as new. And if you are creative and like to tinker, buy the big bag and then sift some of the material into other containers to suit your needs.

    Hey, I actually put an ARE top on my taco any even have a queen size inflatable outdoors mattress w/ battery powered compressor for my tire or the mattress on top of the list! I was 10 years Coast Guard Special Ops in Persian Gulf. (Wounded) As much as I hated them, I have the MRE's too! AND Russell and Jez, best place for a real collapsible shovel is any Army/Navy store if you know a vet or active military, can get one from PX.

    Some of our units have them and we can buy them at the BX, commisary as well.

    Half of nothing is nothing.

    Seems a few of them assumed it would act like a coastal lighthouse for them. It is what it is, an easy to use light source that requires no batteries or cranking and like I said, it works fine for me about 75% of the time when I need a little light. When I need more I either pop my Nitecore D10 out, flip the IPF's on, or aim my weapon light on the issue. I also keep an old carbide lamp and some beeswax candles around and neither is a powerhouse either but the simplicity of use and rugged reliability is hard to beat.

    For E-tools, hit the pawn and surplus shops closest to post to find examples that may have been DX'd out of service by cash strapped troops.

    True, im slowly but surely adding to mine as i see stuff. lol most of it is stuff that ive used or learned about while hunting with my grandpa.. he had an awesome bag full of stuff.. after years of hunting, he had some sweet stuff. so i basically took those ideas and memories and put them into my own. lol

    I have a Glock entrenching tool in my BOB. It's lighter than an Army surplus, way lighter. Very compact while folded. I carry an Army surplus collapsable shovel in my truck. :cool:
