3 inch body lift and BFG's

So the time is quickly approaching for new tires. I will go with the standard BFG AT's. But I have been thinking about putting a 3 inch body lift on my truck. Does anyone have any good recommendations on what lift I should get? Good experiences? Bad ones?

Also, how much does a lift effect handling, towing, ride? Do you loose certain things when you go this route, do you gain certain things, or is it both?

Also, how many miles on average have you guys gotten off your BFG's?

for about the same price i would look in to a suspetion lift mabee a spacer and aal like what i have handling is the same towing the back squats a little more than i would like but now problums with it rise was a little stiff at first but just fine now i have a mus tire and milage is about the same not a big drop the biggest thing is the spedo it off 4mph

hey bud luckily enough you can put a lift of 3 inches, on my truck sadly i can't as it screws with the cv joints, i agree a suspension lift is better, you can go real high cost or simple pieces. I just added a leaf in the back to give me 2 1/2" and am going to put spacers in the front. my total cost will be around 600 cdn. You can go real fancy upto $2500. I guess depends on what you want out of yer truck!

 

i have a procomp 3in lift got on ebay under 300 spacers for the from aal in the rear and 1in dif drop

 

I got Toytec 3in lift. Same set-up as greenbean. Spacers for front, AAL + shocks for rear, and 1" diff. drop. Here's the website: It was $305.98 shipped.

Toy4, did you install it yourself? Will any ol mechanic do this type of thing for you? Sorry, I am that new to this stuff.

Two friends helped me install it in my garage. Did it all with hand tools in about 7 hours, while drinking beers and b.s.ing. It was a pain in the ass, but very do-able.

 

When you do something like this do you have to worry about lengthening anything? Such as the steering column, gas line, messing with the radiator, brake lines?

Not with the lifts that greenbeen or I have. You would have to deal with those things if you got a body lift.

 

So I like the Toytec lift and am really thinking about going that route. I have a buddy who is questioning why I would get the lift but NOT increase my tire size. I currently have 265/75/16's, which I am quite happy with. I don't really know that there is any need to change. These already give me a solid 1 inch larger tire than the stock size. Am I wrong here? Aren't these fine?

 

265's will look good with a 3 inch lift, you could go 285's if you wanted to

 

i have both suspension and body lifts ....body takes like 6 hrs... suspension i can get around 1 hr for front and depending on style in back maybe 2 hrs if everything goes good

 

I should have said this, but my friend's rational was that unless you increase the tire size, you don't add any clearance under the control arms or differentials. I said that's fine. It already has good clearance there, I am looking for body clearence and room for the tires. Aren't those the main benifits of a suspension lift? Sorry, I truly am that much of a rookie.

 

You will add clearance under the front diff., but not the back. That is because of the independant front suspension. 265/70's=stock(31"), 265/75's=32" and will add 1/2" of total clearance, 285/75's=33" and will add 1" of total clearance. These numbers are all aproximate since we're talking about metric tire sizes.

if you put 3" suspension lift under it, it pushes the arms down raising the center diff you will get about 2" clearance gain... With 3" susp. 3" body and 35's I can pull over a 5 gal bucket to change oil like 17" of clearance (roughly same as older hummer H1)
