Volumized trending on gas mileage

I've mentioned that I'm a numbers junkie in another thread and that's no lie. It's an addiction really. After seeing the results of the Eco-VPE test that Mav and 007taco did I am really interested in taking these tests to a larger test group and expanding the data collected. Knowing that there are several of us that will end up buying the Eco device to try it out and that there are many more that won't spend the money, here's what I'd like to do if anyone is interested.

I've got a spreadsheet with all of the necessary data from Mav's test and will be getting the data from 007Taco's test in there shortly as well as starting to add my own. Using the theory of large numbers, the more data we get the better the information produced. To help you don't have to have the system (in fact, we'll need some that don't as a control group). Below is the list of data items I'm asking for. Simply send me periodic updates every tank or 2 with the info and I'll add it in. Then we can start to see the larger trends not only of the VPE, but of all sorts of mods.

Thanks ahead of time for anyone that helps out. I know this is not exact, but in real science you look for trends and that's what I'd like to do here. There are several variables but we have the chance to reduce their effect through volume.

Send data in any format you'd like but please include as much of this data as you can.

truck year
approximate miles on truck (i.e. 10K, 54K, 110K, etc)
engine size
cab
configuration (TRD-off-road, Pre-Runner, etc)
secondary air-filter removed (yes or no)
Stock airfilter or aftermarket (include manufacturer if aftermarket)
4x4 (yes or no)
Transmission (i.e. 5-spd manual, 4-speed auto, etc)
Eco VPE installed (yes or no)
Stock exhaust or aftermarket (include manufacturer for aftermarket)
Total miles for a given tank (tank 1 - 220.5 miles, tank 2 - 180 miles)
Gallons at fill-up (tank 1 - 17 gallons, tank 2 - 14 gallons)
Any accessories you have that may effect efficiency (i.e. roof rack, Running boards, bull bar, etc - please include manufacturer if possible)
Towing/hauling for this tank (yes or no)

*Approximate average speed
*% highway miles
*any assorted notes you care to include

* = not necessary, but helpful

 

I just thought of more info you should consider:
1.)octane rating
2.)Fuel brand (I bring this up because some places up north put in
additives in the winter months that adversely affect fuel economy)

 

Just noting if it was a tank of winter blend should be sufficient. Or more to the point noting if it was pumped between November 1 and April 1 would do as well. ALL brands/stations in cold climate areas are required to pump winter blend during that time period. (federal law)

Octane rating is a good idea to include though.

 

Everyone drives differently. As in "the tire Rack" web site if you review tires and driving conditions, no one mentions how often they turn on the four wheel drive or the the belt sander that they are running while the truck is at idle? using these items effect the MPG of all the trucks. I get about 17 MPG and I am happy for the weight and use of the truck.

 

I'm happy with my mpg too, but I'll entertain chopper's number fetish. It's no skin off my ass.

 

Just wanted to thank those that have been sending me data. I've got about 400 tanks of data so far with at least 10 different configurations. I'm hoping to get a few more and put some tables together this weekend.

Still needing as much data as is out there so keep it coming guys and gals.

Thanks Chad. I just got it.

 

Here's the first run of tables. Keeping it simple until we get more data.

First table is average MPG for the different configurations over years. The second shows the number of tanks for each configuration. I'll be putting more analysis into the tables as we get more data so the numbers actually mean something.

I can send different file types to those that want them but this is the only format I could get to work on here.

 

I just got this great idea from a guy on TN so I've created a file that I can send to anyone that wants it to keep track of their info in. Then they can just send me the file periodically and I can incorporate it into the data set. That way you don't have to create your own file and I don't have to send questions to get the info I need for the analysis.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address if you'd like a copy of the file (or someone tell me how to send excel files on this forum) and I'll send it to you right away.

Was this thing supposed to be for the 2nd gens only? I couldn't help but notice that I'm the only 1st gen.

 

Nope. It's just that the 2nd gens have been responding. I was really interested to see how the technical advancements have effected mileage over the years. Hopefully we'll get more data.

 

I was hoping to have some other 1st gens to compare to, but oh well.
Here's tank latest data for you: 14.966 gallons of 87 / 248.8 miles / still bad o2 sensor
