Maifield can drive the wheels off anything (Losi won 4x4 title tho). The SC8 is basted of the RC8b.1 which is shaft driven. The SC10 (2wd) is a great race truck

the SC10 is basically a lengthened and widened T4

hell on RC Shortcourse somebody modded an original RC10T into a short course racer

I'm not looking to race anything, just something to get my need for speed out when I'm not crawling with the SCX10.

I have an RC10T3 sitting at my parents place with an old Futaba radio that I could probably get back up and running for around $150 or so...

I'd look into the Axial's EXO buggy then or if you still want a short course truck then the SC10 4x4. Most of the 2wd short course kits are aimed at the racing crowd. AE doesn't have a "regular" kit, the SC10 kit includes a lot of up grades for racing. Losi doesn't even have a kit (unless you count TLR tuning kit for the XXX-SCT/B)(rumors are coming out about a new 2wd SC truck based on the TLR22 buggy). HPI Blitz ESE Pro kit is also aimed at the racing crowd, with stiffer plastics and a ball diff.

Both of then vehicles (SC10 4x4/EXO buggy) recommend a 540 can 4 pole motor (this will run cooler than a 550 can motor). Tekin's new Pro4 motor is one of the better ones out there (paired with their RX8 ESC you will have a powerful combo). The reason why alot of brushless motors are going up in price is because the price of neodymium for the magnets is going up.

    I'd check out HPI's Nitro RS4 MT2

or you could look into the Traxxas T-Maxx (this was my first hobby grade R/C that I saved up for when I was younger)

Depends on the age of your son.

I got mine a Rustler VXL with NIMH to start now they run 3s Lipos.

Rustler or Slash VXL are a lot of fun and Traxxas has great customer service. Not to mention there are lots of RPM parts out to fix what you break.

So today I picked up a used traxxas summit and so far I'm enjoying it but I would like to buy an extra set of batteries but need some suggestions. It currently has two traxxas 8.4 volt 3000mah batteries. I would like to upgrade on batteries for longer use and possibly get a charger that can charge more than one battery at a time.

    1. What batteries should I get?
    2. What kind of charger?
    3. Where should I buy them? (best priced website).

I have an iCharger 208b. It puts out 20A, but at 25volts its a little lower. I run two 6S 3000mah packs in series in my setup, 50volts. I charge them in parallel though.
