Toytec add a leaf HALP!

I got used Toytec add a leafs... The add a leaf didnt come with longer U-Bolts... Do I need longer U-Bolts or can I re-use the stock ones?

Please help me out! I want to do the install today and need answer ASAP!!

 

Possibly, I reused my stock ones with my wheeler's 2 inch leafs, they barely fit.

 

I am thinking the stock u-bolts should fit, since there is about inch of thread left and the add a leafs are 1/2" the most... BUT would like to find out if someone has done it. I don't want to take my truck apart just to find out the stock U-bolts wont work with the Add a Leaf.

 

Buy new ones. Some friends were doing this on an 09 dclb and they were too short. I beloved they were toytecs too. We ended up finding hex bolts at a hardware store that fit into the holes on the axle.

I agree with Chris on this but yeah i reused mine with a promise to myself that i would install new ones

 

I had a feeling that's the case, I will play it safe and get new U-Bolts, they are not THAT expensive.

 

I reused mine but my truck had less than 400 thats four hundred miles on them. The bolts barley fit. I think the torque is 37ish ft lbs, look at the FSM in Gen1 forum for the 2nd gen service manual.

When I had my 1997 truck I replaced all the bolts I took off the truck whenever I was doing something to it. I have a new bolts bin at work with grade8 standard and 10.9 metric. I don't know just seemed like the right thing to do.

 

Sawzall is not the best for cutting those... I will use my angle grinder That goes through bolts like nothing...LOL

When I order the U-Bolts I want to get carrier bearing drop or axle shims. Which is better? Or should I use both?

 

37 lbs is the wrong number! It's higher like 85 or something!

 

Just looked it up, 37 ft-lbs is correct BUT I agree it should be way more!

 

We ran into this issue at a mod day earlier this year, i think it was Seth or Jerry that said that it wasn't correct, well mine or torqued higher, i don't think there is a issue except it will need a couple of days with some PB Blaster before and possibly just cutting them off instead

 

Well I did agree that it should be higher, I always do a lot more than 37 when I come across u-bolts.

 

Yep, 37 seems ridiculous for something that handles so much stress

 

The 37 ftlb spec on the U bolts is a typo in the FSM .

Should be 75-85

I had this same issue when installing my Dakars
