Yep I try to plan my big purchases around their sales and coupons.
The boots I want are $180 - I have the $100 gift card for signing up for hte rei visa burning a hole in my wallet right now so that brings the shoes down to $80 and if I can wait for a coupon that will bring them to around $64. Not bad :D

Its called self control, try it some time. Much better than impulse buying ;)

 At least you acknowledge that women are the smarter half of the species.

So I've got my hands on a bed rug. What do y'all think of them for camping? They seem really well made but I always have dirty waders and boots in my truck bed so I don't know if I'll want it. It came in a package deal so I might just sell it..

Occasionally, I'll take freeze dried food on camping trips--it packs well, doesn't require a lot of effort, blah blah. They also make great emergency meals as they don't really spoil. Price? IDK. When they taste great, I feel like $6-$8 isn't bad. When they taste like crap, well, I think it's too much :D

I've learned a few things. When it says "stir", it means stir; not squish. When it says "2c" of water; well, that's kind of generous in most cases. If it says "wait 20 minutes"; it really means wait and if you're above about 5,000'; wait some more. And they really mean "boiling water".

I've tried Backpacker's Pantry and Mountain House and one or two others. The former because they offer stuff that's different like Pad Thai Noodles or curries. Of all the brands I've tried, Mountain House has been the most consistent. Both in terms of taste and preparation. Backpacker's Pantry is pretty bland and often needs a lot of doctoring--or not. BP is pretty inconsistent. The other brands I've tried sucked.
One of my favorite meals is MH's Lasagne. Their breakfast items aren't bad either.

What do you think of freeze dried meals?

They are good for the real short trips but once you get in to the multi day long trips, the price is just too much.. plus if you don't know which ones are good, you are taking a big gamble. lol I have eaten about 8 of them and of those, I think I only REALLY liked 3.

I have tried both Backpackers pantry and mountain house and neither were all that great. I also found they have way too much rice. The single servings were no where near enough to fill me up but the double servings were too much. lol

idk on price. If you figure a dinner is $6.50 and "feeds two", you don't need much else to make a decent meal and if you were to try and match the protein/calories/menu item, it'd probably cost you more.

Dinner is really the only meal I'll use the freeze dried for. Breakfast is generally oatmeal. Lunch is more snack for me. One or two freeze dried breakfast wraps are nice on a long trip.

As far as risk, I wouldn't take anything I hadn't tried before. I learned that lesson a long time ago. Nothing like eating two cups of cardboard :)
