Possible transmission problem. Any advice?

So I changed my oil two days ago. A couple hours after I changed it I took the truck out to the store. When I started it a bunch of smoke came out of the exhaust. Then it was having trouble accelerating after a complete stop. It felt like the transmission was slipping. Also when I am at a complete stop the truck start "bucking". It wants to accelerate. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

 

If you're like a certain other poster here, you probably drained your transmission instead of the crankcase. And then dumped another 5 qts of oil into the crank case, doubling up on the oil fill.

 

Ok, well if that's the case where would I go from there?

 

Check your transmission dipstick, to check your fluid level. Also check your oil dipstick to see if you over filled it. Then replace the amount of ATF you drained, then drain the OIL PAN, check to make sure you have the right drain plug before you remove the drain plug.

Pull the engine dipstick and take a reading. That means remove the dipstick, wipe it clean with a shop rag or paper towel, reinsert it, remove it again and note the oil level against the marked indicator.

Holy smokes I didn't think someone could make that mistake lol but than again anything is possible. I wonder if that's what he actually did. I didn't think you could fit another 5 quarts in the engine anyway!

I hope you have had it towed to the nearest stealership to get the transmission re-filled.

So wait, you can't fill a transmission on a Tacoma on your own at home?

 

Oh I see good thing I have a first gen than in case I ever change my tranny fluid. it's likely I never will though, to many miles and PO had no idea if it had ever been done...lame though I love fresh fluid in my truck lol

 

I believe that's why it's coming out of the exhaust. It might be passing the seals.

 

Yea. Overfilling causes extreme crankcase pressure and will drive oil into the PCV and past the rings. It will also cause foaming of the oil and premature bearing failure; the air in the oil prevents it from protecting the crank and rod bearings.
STOP DRIVING it before you check the fluids. Draining the engine oil will fix the problem. Make sure you run the drained oil through a fine sieve to look for metal shavings. Small particles are fine, but shavings mean major damage.
