AFE Pro dry vs. Pro-5R (oiled)

in the market for an afe drop in filter but i read into it and the oiled afe filter can suck more air into the engine( like more thatn 130 cfm) therefor more horsepower gains right? but ive also read that the oils can cuase issues with the MAF or something?

 

Why AFE filters? Purolator pureone air filters filter more particles and cost half as much.

 

ok???? well i could use the 1 or 2 extra mpg's.... and it says like 2-3 extra horsepower...

Expect about a .5 mpg improvement with the Pro Dry.... However it is nice to buy an air filter...once.

 

na i always keep my filter really clean and clear but it just a cheap model form auto zone

 

if you want oiled ones they make MAF cleaner you just spray on. I have an oiled K&N and im gonna trade in for a pro dry just cause ive seen what the oil does and don't really care if it lets more air in i just want cleanliness

I just bought a new one today.

The reason I'm not a fan of washable filters is every time you wash them they lose ability to filter (15,000 miles). So really they don't save much money. If you get it muddy, it's junk. They aren't recommended for dusty environments.
If you buy a good throw away filter and change it regularly it's better for the engine.

 

I had a K&N, didn't notice a difference, except all the dust it let in the intake.

Stick with OEM style filters. No oils to mess with your MAF, and will keep your engine running the cleanest and the longest.

I would still go to the dealership and get a factory denso filter. IMO will filter the best. If its good enough for toyota, then it should work fine for us!

 

The pureone are $32. The regular purolator ones are like half that, but they filter 96.5% of crap. Similar to an OEM one.

 

Really?? My local advanced auto had them for like $14-$16 depending on what make/model.

 

For the pureone? I would've bought 5 right then. Advance has them right now for $39.99.
