What exactly is the valet key for?
Normally, a valet key is used to unlock and start the vehicle only while keeping any lockable compartments secure, correct?

Well I just double checked and I'm pretty sure neither my center console or my glove box locks, so what is the point of the valet key?

I keep that key in my wallet, And the extra real key hidden inside my truck. If i ever lose my keys I can still drive home, or if i ever lock my keys in the car its not a problem either. Since the valet key is thin I cant notice it in my wallet. Then again I have a "Costanza" wallet.

I read that in another thread when I searched about it and was wondering if it's supposed to be slimmer than the other keys... but mine isn't.
It's the exact same size, it's just a lighter color gray. Is your valet key slimmer than the normal one?

I think I read that another key can't be programmed from the chip in a valet key, you need the black master key

Why not just give him your key or the spare key?
Why do they have to color code it if it isn't any different than a normal key?

Color coding, so you know it's the valet and don't confuse it.

Valet key only allows certain functions. I don't use it but on other vehicles where I've had one, it wouldn't allow access to to the trunk, for example.

Honestly, on these trucks, I don't see the point of it.

What else can my normal key do besides unlocking the door and starting the vehicle?

I saw... Our trucks don't have anything else that locks, so like you I don't see the point in it.

When the salesman handed me the key and explained it's purpose, he led me to believe the center console and/or glove box can be locked. I've only had the truck for a day now and was trying to figure out if there is a reason for a valet key (maybe some top secret compartment i don't know about, lol) or if the salesman was mistaken.

The Black key is the master key and can be used to program another key, the gray valet key cannot
