Front end/grill switch

Is it possible to switch a 01-04 front end/grill with a 2000 style one? About how much would that cost?
Looking for a tacoma, and really like the 2000 grill, just seem to find more 01+ with the options I want.

Except you need 98-00 headlights/hood/grille not the 95.5-97 I used. Try that and pm me with any questions.

 

Yeah it's easy but time consuming.

You'll need a 98-00 Hood, 98-00 Grill, 98-00 Headlights, 98-00 Headlight fillers
and corner lights from a 98-00 if you want them to fit perfect..the 01's don't fit perfect..just a tad bit off(not really noticeable unless your a nitpicker)

 

And that's the only difference in the body from 2000 to 2001 correct? The grill and hood setup. Or is there slight differences in the bed and other parts as well?

 

Not really.
01-04s all come stock with what's called 4wd fenders..they have a flare on the actual fender..and sometimes have the plastic fenders that clip on also.

on a 98-00 truck..only the actual 4wd's have 4wd fenders..and prerunners. the 2wd 5 lug trucks didn't have them.

Beside the 01-04 bumper being physically longer(because of said fenders I mentioned)..nothing really changed...long as you keep your 01-04 fenders, then your bumper will be fine.

01-04 tailights are different though.

But I have a 4x4 '98 that I want to swap the grille to a '96-97.

I appreciate STLHarry's input in the other thread but reading this one it appears as though I have to get a new hood in order to make the '96-97 grille fit?

Obviously, new headlight assemblies are in order too but I'm most concerned about the hood as I don't want to spend the money to buy a hood and paint it.

 

No worries. That's an appropriate use of the search function IMO.

You DON'T need a new hood when switching between 95.5-97 and 98-00. You DO need a new hood when switching between either of those and the 01-04.

I was lucky in that my new truck was also white (slightly different shade, but I really couldn't care less) so no painting was needed.

I didn't. The differences in the corner lights are not size or shape, but rather whether its mounted with screws or clipped in. My 01 has clips, while my old 96 had screws. I preferred screws, but the clipped-in corner lights still fit with the old grille.

So I would put them on the list of parts that don't need replacing. If the 01 lights fit next to the 96 grille, then logically the 98-00 ones should too.

Ha too easy. I'm definitely one of the only ones on here who's actually done it so just glad to share what I know.

False. The fenders are all identical. The only differences in the corner lights are the mounting mechanisms (screws vs clips), but other than that they are the same.

You should have no problem.
