Hi all, I don't have pics yet since I finished when it was dark out. Will get pics up tomorrow. Just wanted to share a few things.

    1. I read on here and other forums to clay bar even though the truck it brand new. I didn't believe it but I did anyway. You would be surprised how dirty 3 week old paint is. Clay barring the thing made a HUGE difference. The paint was dirty and had deposits. Even after a good wash with dawn, the clay bar still came off brown.

    2. Its pretty much impossible to beat zaino. its a bitch to use but the results are insane. My truck is so damn shiny its not even funny. And from previous experience, zaino lasts a long time!

    Here's my process: wash with dawn-clay bar-z5-z6-z2-z6.

    Sorry for no current pics.

dawn dish soap baby! Only once though, it will never touch my truck again.

Its actually recommended to strip off any waxes, oils, or crap on your paint so that when you polish, the only thing UNDER your polish is paint. Nothing else. Nothing.

Pretty funny cause zaino's instruction is wash truck with dawn dish detergent then put it back in the kitchen because you will never use it again.

really? Dish soap can eat away your clear coat!
I'd never, ever use it... though I can ssee why using it once could work....

A good friend of mine used dish soap to wash his truck for years. Exact same year/color as mine. Now, when having a convo around his truck, people pull off the clear coat in chunks, and 90% of it is gone.
there's a bazillion different factors that go into his shit clear but it's still reason enough for me to stay away from it.

I guess as long as you use it only once, and wax afterwards, it's fine. (Looking over the "ask a detailer" thread)

...oh come on. Everyone knows the real reason is that it causes bikini-clad girls who drape themselves across cars or trucks that have bern washed with Dawn to become sterile.

I use "designer car wash" too. But the stated reason is that other types of detergents prematurely remove the wax I worked so hard to put on.

People still use dish soap to wash their cars? Ounce for ounce dish soap is more expensive than dedicated car wash soap and isn't even recommended for car use.

Not gonna lie though, I've done it before.

I have never used clay bar before, but I am a big fan of Meguiar's cleaner wax. I've used it to get highway stripe paint, pine sap, spray paint overspray and lots of other stuff off my trucks before. If anyone has used both, can you give me a comparison? reason I ask is my new truck has areas on the fender flares that are somewhat dull. I was planning to rub it out with cleaner wax because I know it works, but would clay bar be faster/easier? TYIA :)

Dawn dish soap is so bad for your clear coat. Think about it, If it can cut through oil to wash birds in an oil spill... What do you think its going to do to a thin layer of clear? I would never wash my truck with dawn soap, just for the fact that its NOT MEANT FOR VEHICLES. LOL go out and buy some real car soap. Meguiars, Turtle, Ice any of those would be much better suited.

The reason it would say not to use it on windows is because it would mess up and tint that was on it

Dawn dish soap shouldn't be used regularly on your truck because it will strip away any wax or polish on your paint. I don't know for sure but I would assume its too harsh and will damage paint over time.

Dawn is recommened for the zaino process because you want to strip away and previous wax and dirty. That way you are confident there is NOTHING under the polish you are putting over your paint. Otherwise you are basically trapping in dirty and previous sh(tty wax.

So I only used it this once for the purpose of stripping the paint. Normal car wash wouldn't serve this purpose since its formulated not to strip wax.

Gelo760, I felt the same way you did that there's no way the paint needs clay barring. But I was surprised how much smoother the paint was after it was done. I wouldn't expect the dealership to clay bar the truck. In fact I don't want them to do it. There are some people that request the dealer to leave the plastic on the paint when they pick it up. That way you are sure the dealer didn't mess with your paint.

For the record other than the one time dawn use, I don't even use car soap on my truck. Just water and a sponge. Dats it.

I used Dawn Dish Soap for years on my previous car and the clear coat eventually came right off. Looked like hell and pissed me off pretty bad. Never used it on any other car and their clear coats are unscathed.

Thats my .02s and I wouldn't use it.
