First thanks to the forum for such a amazing source of everything Tacoma. I had fun with my Tacoma but I out grew it with hobbies. Truck lacked power and the trailers I was pulling were only getting bigger. Never had any issues quality wise with my truck, and would reccomend to anyone looking for any think less than full size. I traded my Tacoma DC Sport for a 2011 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 with the new Ecoboost engine. All I can say is wow! Huge powerhouse! Those twin turbos putting out 15 pounds of boost is crazy. Now I have a 10,000 plus tow rating, 365 horsepower and 420 hp on pump 87. It also has the 6 speed automatic with tow package out of the F-250 line trucks. That equals mid 14 second truck stock before a tune. I am getting 18-19 consistently in and around town and hit 20-21 on interstate.

Thanks again for the help on my previous truck, and best of wishes to the forum!

    Congrats.
With that fuel mileage, might as well have a full size.

I wish that Toyota would find a way to wring more fuel economy out of their 4.0

And sorry, didn't mean to sound like a hater. It was just a truck I was looking at when I was getting ready to buy something and I had read the towing stories.

Curious to see how many issues the new Fords have, now that they have dropped to 20th place for reliability....And I like this comment:

I think he meant 365 hp and 420 ftp torque.. thats still crazy.. hehe. I have testdriven the ecoboost and it is a fast truck bone stock. But my god does the gas get sucked down when you get them turbo's going hehe... if your doing the 6 second 0-60.. your getting like 8 mpg . I guees the same goes for a supercharged tacoma though.

The thing that stopped me from buying the ecoboost was the price for an ecoboost the way i wanted it equipped... for a 2x4 equipped along the lines of my Tacoma i was looking at close to 40K... ouchie

the eco boost motors are so sweet, the new SDHQ raptor with the eco boost engine is a straight beast.

Correct about towing. 5-7 is extreme. That's max loads getting close to 11000 pounds and encountering strong head winds. I pull a 4000+ boat on a often basis and I usually drop to 14-15 mpg cruising at 60. It pulls with authority though. Have no issues passing or pulling grades.

As far as issues with this truck. I have not had any but a few people have. Some have been caught in a faulty transmission pump seal issue, and some have experienced a issue where they floor the Ecoboost and it goes into limp mode. Seems like some wastegate quirks.

Overall quality and performance of this truck has me happy with my purchase. Also the fact I spent 33k after rebates. 42 was sticker.

I think the ecoboost will put a lot of pressure on the other auto companies to step up the MPG's. Maybe diesel or hybrid, I'd take either one over the 4.0, or the 4.0 hybrid from Lexus.

The power, size, and mileage, make it seem to be a step ahead.

I would have thought maybe a diesel might be the way but now with all the emission regulations it seems to be slipping away.

I do think forced induction will be seen more often to meet growing need for more power with less. Most passenger cars are already 2-3 liter turbo powered; why can't we have 3-5 liter turboed trucks? A 3L turbo I4 or V6 would get great fuel mileage and over 300 hp in a Tacoma. It's not that it can't be done, just takes a gamble. Seems like ford has hit a grand slam!

I dont think the Eco boost is going to prove much as for mpg. It gets about 5 to 10 when towing. Our 2 Dodge Cummins have been getting 15 t0 17 towing 14k lbs. 21.9 empty. The newest one is getting 19 mpg city/hwy empty. Gas sint going to match Deisel for a long time.
