I will definitely venture into that. I have to take it apart anyway to see if I can fix the handle.

A year or so ago, I had a bunch of scaffolding in the bed (I have a topper) and it was damn near the same length of bed with the tailgate shut. Well after driving, the several hundred pounds of metal was pushed up against the tailgate making it impossible to open it (due to the force pushing the latches up against the strike plates). After trying to wrestle the scaffolding back towards the cab, just an inch or so, I gave up and just pull the door handle as hard as I could to pop it open.

Since that the handle doesn't recessed flush anymore when in the closed position. I gotta see what's going on behind there.

    Good to know.

Where should I apply that dab? As far down the shaft as possible or is on the tip good enough? (no homo)

I have to lift the handle in order to close my tailgate. Is this the same problem?

Possibly needs lube. However the latch on the bed side does actually bend out of shape over time. This is a very common problem among tacoma tailgates. I have seen at least 6 including my own. See which side is failing to engage the latch take a hammer and hit it with a good whack to bend it back into shape. Then close the tailgate with only your pinky.

    Yup.

If you don't lift the handle up does it just "thunk" and not close when you try to shut it? If so, just lube up the latches.

Sometimes its not lube related. Toyota didnt gusset the clip on the bedside enough it it bends outwards over time aswell. Could be a a combination of problems aswell.

Yeah, I just read your previous post. Never heard of this happening and certainly not on my truck.

Good info to know though, thanks.

Thought there wasn't much daylight, if at all, this time of year for Alaska? or are you not far enough north?

We still get like 5.5 hours of daylight in the middle of winter in Anchorage. Head farther north and you'll see 4 hours, farther north and you won't see any for a month straight.

I couldn't imagine no sunlight for a month.

We get 310+ days of sunshine here along the front range in Colorado.

I go into withdraw if I don't see the sun for a couple of days.

I've never experienced that before. That's in Barrow, wayyyy farther north than I am. In the summer the sun does not set for like 80 days or something crazy. But I've lived here my whole life. I hate visiting places and having the sun set by 8pm in the summer. I'm used to being up with daylight well past midnight.
