    None but soon......
Yeah I saw that. I decided tonight to go the simple route. Another member on here did a write up on a simple one. Basically two 2x6s across the bed and two pieces of carpeted plywood. Easy in and easy out! I'm sure I will frequent this thread once the weather warms back up here and we start camping. Thanks!

I did last month or so. I NR'd a hammock and set it up right next to my fire all night. I survived.

Crazy! Id think twice about a hammock on snow even with an under quilt next to a fire. I've never had much luck with hammocks, most have been uncomfortable. Might give one of those warbonnet blackbird hammocks a shot just to confirm though.

hammocks require a little bit of a fiddle factor to get right. go on youtube and watch seanemery aka shugs videos on hammock camping. he has like a 9 part series on the basics. that helped me out a ton

Thought I would throw a photo up of my Tacoma out in the field in Death Valley. Mapping out in the wilderness area in the southeastern part of the park by myself, so my Tacoma is all I have to talk to...

Also, thought I would share a story from this morning... came upon a new BMW 5 series from Beverly Hills stuck in about a foot of sand out in the middle of nowhere. Looked like they had walked out the previous day so I left some water and a note for them in case they came back, since I didn't see them along the road. They came back at about noon with a tow truck... which I suspect was a very pricey tow (and probably a divorce waiting to happen). Not sure what they were thinking taking that road, which was clearly marked with signs - "Deep Sand 1_1/2 miles ahead."

yes. I actually prefer snow/winter camping. Make sure you wear LAYERS!!! that is one of the most important things. if you start to sweat, take a layer off so you don't get cold. Also, invest in a good pad and sleeping bag.

A few tricks I have learned...

To get around the whole putting frozen boots on the next morning, take a stuff sack, turn it inside out so mud doesn't ruin the inside, put your boots inside and throw one of those hand warmers inside the bag and close it up. War boots in the morning! :D

The nice thing about winter is you are living in a refrigerator. Pack stuff that you don't normally eat while camping in the summer! Eat nice big hardy meals since your body worked harder and drink LOTS of water!

That is too cool! looks like a nice time. nothing around and no one to be bothered by... sounds PERFECT to me!

Thanks for the tips guys! Specially the one about the stuff sack and hand warmer.

Would you say those zippo hand warmers would work okay? or do they have to be those one time use types?

I would use the chemical ones. Anything that burns creates carbon monoxide. In a tent, that's a bad thing

Also, if you're making water by melting snow, you will need to carry more fuel (and you might want to consider the type of fuel you're using (propane is less efficient in cold weather for example)).

I would just use the one time use ones for the reason below vvv Don't want to make your own gas chamber!
x2 on the propane. I have to switch to my MSR Whisperlite stove during the winter because quite frankly, I HATE sleeping with the propane cylinder in my bag and it take about 1/4 time longer to bring anything to a boil.

Thanks! Guess I'll pick up a few of those chemical ones. I never thought about the CM from the Zippo warmer.

Too bad they don't already have one, they are currently having a sale on REI gear for 30% off. They are doing it online as well.
