    My money says it isn't a root kit. The fake av replaces the default program for a .exe. when you fix the fake AV, the OS no longer knows how to handle a .exe file, so everything that you try to run, can't because it doesn't know how to run it. Microsoft has a fix to put the registry entries back so it knows how to handle a .exe file. I've haggled with this one before.


    Just so you know, i'm just giving you crap about butting in. :cool:

    well it could make you a lot of money in the long run. Fixing home users pc's can be quite profitable. your on the right track using bleepingcomputer.com . Their app, combofix, fixes a lot of things as well. I have a MIL that finds a lot of things that i get to fix.
