Noob who just ordered Toytec 3" lift

Hey everyone! I am new, but I've been lurking around TW as an unregistered for a month or so, but I got my 2012 DCSB TRD Off Road on Thanksgiving weekend, and I figured it would be an appropriate time to join up and chime in.
I was researching lifts and I found all the threads on lifts at TW to be very helpful, and my wife will be glad that I finally ordered it, so now I'll stop looking a truck porn (the build pages) and reading endless comments about lifts on the internet all day.
The kit I ordered will hopefully be delivered Friday (keeping my fingers crossed) so I'll be probably lurking around some more looking for clues to get unstuck from whatever problem I get myself into.
I'm planning on getting some 285/75/16 and putting them on the factory rims. I know that many people say that those won't fit, but a few people say they do. My plan is to see how it looks once the lift is in place, and if the stock tires (265/70/16 BFG rugged terrain) look too small to me, I'll upsize them to the 33s.

I bought my first new vehicle, a 2wd SR5 Tundra in 2003 that just got banged up in October, and although I was sad to let it go, I was ready to get better mileage and 4wd. Unless you count carrying a bunch of tools and equipment, it was stock when I sold it eight and a half years later. Much of the tools (3000 lb manual chain winch, 25' chain, straps, basic hand tools under the seat) got transferred to my new truck. The Tundra never once gave me a mechanical or electrical problem outside of the brakes being too light duty. (they warped if I carried a 1000+ lb load and had to stop quickly)

If the 285s dont fit, Its a pretty easy fix, Just a little trimming around the edges nothing to serious. It really depends on the lift you get. Some kits are going to give you 2.5" some will give you a little over 3"

Just to throw it out there, Are you sure Toytec makes a 3" lift for the new 2012? Im not 100% but i think the suspension changed...

subb'd. cant wait for pics. you will have to cab mount if you plan on actually wheeling. definetly have to trim plastic on fender, mud flaps removed. also some spidertrax spacers might be in order.

I ordered the Toytec/Bilstein adjustable shocks. They are really 2.5" and I don't know why I called it a 3" lift. I called toytec and spoke with a guy (Justin?) who told me it there wouldn't be any problem installing it on a 2012.

Now I feel dumb, but I don't know what cab mount is? I will go offroad, but literally 99% of my driving is going to be in and around San Francisco, (I use the truck for work to go to the jobsites, office, stores...)
There's a few trails east of Yosemite, out by Mono Lake, that I was too afraid to take my old truck cause they were way to sandy and a zillion miles from anywhere. Next summer I'll make a few trips out there.

your tires might rub right where your "cab mounts to the frame" you will find out as soon as you mount your tires and take somewhere for some flex. if it does do a search and its fixable.

 

Gotcha and thanks! I've got a grinder, sawzall, and am looking for an excuse to get a dremel, so hopefully I can handle the trimming when I get to that point.
I'm not a mechanical wiz, but I can follow instructions. For the trimming, there won't be any instructions, so maybe I'll be able to find a template posted somewhere on TW. If not, maybe I'll make one and post it.

Welcome, In for pics in info, im in the same boat with my 12' i am obsessed with wanting a lift but need to find the right one for my task .

 

Sweet truck, ur gonna need spidertrax wheel spacers if you go with 33's.

 

I did order one pair of spidertrax 1.25" spacers with the lift kit. I'd like to see how it works without the spacers, but if I need them, I'll have them. I don't have a backup vehicle, so I need to have everything when I get started.
I'm planning on seeing how these look in relation to the back, and if the back looks too skinny, I'll pick another pair up later.

 

If you can wait for me to get finished up, I'll let you know how easy it was, how the ride turns out, and how it looks.

My problem is that I'm leaving on the 20th for almost 2 weeks, so I want to get the lift installed this weekend (assuming it arrives on Friday), drive it around sunday afternoon and Monday, and post some pics before I leave. Once I'm gone, the build is going to be idle for a couple of weeks.

 

Hey, thanks for the welcome. Do you know any good trails out that way? I've been on a couple very rough gravel roads that I would have felt better with 4wd at the bases of Boundary Peak (by Dyer NV) and White Mountain Peak. I know they're a ways south from you, but I'm looking for anything. I've got an itch to take this thing off the pavement and in the Bay Area my options are pretty limited to nothing.

 

Hopefully will be getting the same lift for Christmas!
