just wanted to make a formal goodbye on the forum for my dog Baxter, Were not sure how old he was but were guessing around 12 years old. He was a rescue that we did 7 years ago.

A few days ago His old age got to him and we had to take him to the vet, he was ready to go when he got there.

I know we gave him the best life we could. Ive never seen such a great transition from the dog he used to be. I know he died happy. you can find some more pics of him in one of my previous posts with my other two dogs.

its always hard to say goodbye to a friend, but he truly had a great life.

    [IMG]Rainbow Bridge [IMG]

[SIZE=+1]Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    its never goodbye........I'm so sorry

Here's the "old man" Jake - going on 15 years old. My wife and I were out hiking when we were newlyweds and found him in the middle of a field in a cardboard box in the dead of winter (in Utah) - he couldn't have been more than five or six weeks old. Been the best damned dog! We figure he's part Border Collie based on his temperament and aptitudes.

This is more how he looks now

But then this summer, we ended up rescuing a Chihuahua puppy - despite what you may think, Chihuahua's can be pretty cool.

We really hoped that a little dog would be good for Jake
    [IMG]

We had no idea what to name him, so we had a contest and he was named "Sprocket" and he loves going for rides on the scooter.

They say the secret with Chihuahua's is to "let their feet touch the ground" - we took that to mean; treat them like a dog. Sprocket goes hiking with us now. Short hikes, mind you. :)

    And they've become best pals.

Careful in woods this time of year. Our lab charlie stepped in a trap. He'll be fine but just a word of caution since it is trapping season in some parts.
