    What weight of oil for a 2010 prerunner TRD? And do I need LSD additive?

    You dont need any addative. 75-90 is a good weight, but some folks run 90-140 or 75-140.

    I was just talking to my local wrench (he's been working on my family's cars and trucks for 20 years) and he told me that unless we've got positraction (LSD) rear diffs or we do a lot of towing, that there's no need to change the diff fluids.

    What gives? Oh, and he said not to use synthetic ever.

    I'd also like to know if I can use synthetic. I was told I could and it would help in the winter by making it easier to move thus improving gas mileage as that takes a hit with the winter gas.

    You NEED To change the fluid every 30k miles, or so. Synthetic is fine in the rear and front diffs of these trucks.

    I figured Synthetic was ok. I knew I had to change it but its good to have clarification on the type of fluid I can use.

    Any issue with using synthetic in the x-fer case? I'm assuming no but figured it couldn't hurt to ask and if I'm going to buy stuff, I'm doing it all with the same stuff... :eek:

    Nope. Run it all the time in the vehicles that call for regular gear oil.

    I buy the five gallon buckets of GL-5 80w-90 at the FLAP...I like the valvoline, castrol or the Citco brand best, but must have a 10 empty buckets of various brands of gear oil around...
