I just purchased a 2012 V-6 TRD with all the bells and whistles for 29, 864 from Beaver Toyota in Santa Fe, and unlike CA, the tax is only 1% on new cars in New Mexico. Other dealers were $1000 or more above that.

And I forgot; I traded in my 2009, 4cyl SR5 4X4 and got $18,000. Beaver Toyota put it on the lot for $23,000 and it lasted only 3 days. Tacomas have one of the highest trade-in values of any vehicle - great when you're the trader, not great when you're the tradee.

VERY TRUE. I actually work at a Kia dealership, but the auto group has numerous different brands including Toyota. True Car is one of the worst sites to look on. According to that site, in reference to a new Kia Sportage we have for sale that normally MSRP's for $32,000, truecar said that people should be able to get a price of $24,000??? Trust me, there is not that kind of markup in these vehicles.

It is good to get a general idea for online prices as those prices are usually the best because the dealership wants to get as much attention and sales as possible. However, as I mentioned, be cautious of these so called "savy" interenet websites that are customer oriented because in reality a lot of them are a bunch of crap.

Another aspect depends on if the dealer is more volume oriented or gross oriented. If volume, they'll tend to whore the vehicles out, sometimes even under inovice. A lot of it depends on the dealer atmosphere, the people managing the dealership, and the competition they have with other dealers. However, if they know that they are the only dealer that has what you are looking for, they are not going to budge much on price. And there is a way for the dealers to see what other dealers have.

Good luck in your search and hopefully you find what you are looking for OP.

Ive tried NavyFed , USAA , Truecar , and Overstock. THey tell me what i want to hear but when i actually go in there its quite a different story and they dont know if they can get close to that price. The only people that have been kind enough to actually listen and work with me so far have been the people at the Mossy Toyota in Pacific Beach. On the side ive been looking at the used Tacomas and im just curious as to what numbers i should be expecting on the used vehicles .

on Tacoma 2 im thinking 28k or 28.5k OTD would be fair

In reference to the title, nothing is wrong with them! Dealerships are in business to make money and that’s what they’re going to do, especially on these great trucks. Why would they drop the price when the next person who walks in will end up paying sticker. You would be surprised how many people are clueless when it comes to buying a car/truck. Buying is hard work and very time consuming; it takes a while to find that one desperate dealer willing to let it go for the price you want.

On a positive note the more money people pay for these the better they hold their value. When thinking of it this way I’m almost cheering to the stealerships.

I just picked mine up new OTD for $29,1xx. I had no intentions on buying a new truck. I was on the lot looking for a truck with 50,000 to 75,000 miles on it 4x4 dcsb and left with a brand new truck 2011 Tacoma TRD offroad dcsb 4x4 im very pleased with my deal. The sticker was $32,600 sale price was $27,500 Bill Penney Toyota sounds like the place to go. He said that the are a volume dealer which at the time I thought was a sales pitch but seems to be some truth to it.

So in other words they got $5k more off of you, or sold the new car at approx $34,864. You have to be careful when trading in because they hide some of the cost of the new car in your trade in

Just as an FYI for any others looking out there my uncle is a sales manager at a Toyota here in AZ and I got the OP a quote for a 2012 V6 auto DC 4x4 off road TRD in black for $30,500 otd. That is not counting any trade in's or cash down, a straight up price. Anyone looking for a new toyota of any kind in the southwest shoot me a PM and I will get you a quote

I wasn't in the military at all, and I'm in USAA. Awesomely helpful, not just their car-buying service but really anything I've ever asked of them.

My 2011 DC OR 4x4 was 32K. I was actually going to buy a used one until I realized the used ones were only $4-5K less. High resale values, because they're great trucks!

    Hahaha love it:
Paragraph 1: Nothing's wrong with the dealerships trying to make more money.
    Paragraph 2: "stealerships."

    Awesome.

Try USAA pricing. When I bought mine last year they beat all others. I got an 11 offroad DC auto just after they were available at just about 29k.

Take a look at Edmunds.com. Take the TMV price to the dealer. If they don't want to deal, take it to another one. Make sure mats are included. They try to get you for an additional 180.

Just saying if some idiot walks in and is willing to pay sticker that's the idiots fault and not the dealer, hence why I said nothing is wrong with them. Yep you can call them Stealers all right because if you're dumb enough to let them they'll steal as much money as they can get from you.

Perhaps the question should be what’s wrong with us. Shit how many people do you know who actually manage their money smartly?

Dealerships can steal because they can. If you decided to give your truck up would you sale it to someone for a smoken low price or will you hold out for the idiot like the dealers do?

I noticed today the local Dodge dealer had a used 2011 MGM TRD Sport Double Cab on the used lot. It had 3,000miles and they wanted $31,000.

I did use Edmunds price, and that's what I got for both the trade and new Taco. 18000 for the 2009 4cyl was a good price according to Edmunds and Kelly, and 29,xxx for a 2012 TRD off road V-6 is as good as you can get in the SW. With my credit union low rate I now pay $100 less per month for a new and better Tacoma, and a wall street bank doesn't get my money.

I agree. Just thought it was kinda funny.

I actually had a horrible experience when I bought my truck. The salesman was fine, I knew what I wanted, there wasn't much for him to say. But the guy who sells all the various service packages and insurance and all that... oh man. What a dirtbag. I hate to say it but I'm really glad I took a male friend with me. I also realize it's this guy's job to sell the products and he probably works on commission.

As long as my friend was in the room the guy would just make his pitch. If my friend got a phone call or went out for a cigarette or whatever I swear the guy would try to confuse me into buying crap I didn't need. He'd draw these ridiculous diagrams that made no sense, give me two or three different prices for the same product, talk a little faster, give me less time to ask questions or look at the actual paperwork. As soon as my friend came back he was just a normal guy doing his sales pitch again. He easily would have tacked another $10K onto the price of my truck. As it worked out I got pissed off about how he was treating me and all I bought was the gap insurance for about $600. He might have sold me a couple of the other items but I started to feel like he wasn't representing the products honestly.
