Different dealerships

Hey, forgive me if this has already been discussed but I couldn't find it with the search.

I was wondering how common it is for people to buy at one dealership and then get service at another (I am guessing it's high). I am buying from a dealer 1 1/2 hrs away but will need service from one 3 minutes away.

Also do the dealers service center treat the cars/trucks they get from other dealerships differently?

What's your experience?

I am doing the same thing, though to date all I have had done is an oil change. So I can't really say yet. I did call them to see if they would install my leveling spacers and they said they don't do that kind of thing. Not what I wanted to hear.

 

its normal to do. I have done it with a few different cars that i owned. I've moved a few times over the years. A factory warranty from toyota means you can go to any authorized toyota service garage. With my new tacoma i can go to any garage or just a back yard mechanic aslong as its in the usa or canada. and i save all the reciepts. the only difference for me is that i dont have to pay the 100 deductible if i go back to where i bought the truck.

 

I called all my local dealers and recieved similar news. I wanted to buy the lift kit online then have them install it so it wouldn't affect my warrenty, but they said they dont recomend lifts and so they will not install them under any circumstance. bummer....

 

I personally rarely go to any dealerships for service.

 

i fully agree. i was planning on doing the lift myself but if i could get the dealership to do it and keep my warrenty i was going to try that, but no luck there. when/if i get my lift kit i'll be doing it in my friends shop.... he has a lift and more tools than a Nascar pit crew

 

Well, if you need warranty service I mean. I do mostly everything else myself.

 

Viper, kind of got the same thing going on. I purchased mine and be honest with ya's, I didn't really get any special deals ( gave me a decent trade $$ 4 my beat to death dodge ) but when I left the dealer the day I picked it up I asked the oil change million $ ? So, if I bring the taco to them my oil is changed for life of ownership, I guess if you add that up it isn't that bad of a savings. I don't know what your deal is but I would have asked them that. Around here though the dealer I used is one of them GIANT ones that own about 20 dealerships between the surrounding towns, I should ask if or why I couldn't go to their other toy dlrshp. and have it done?? They won't put lifts on but they can't tell you it won't void warrenty, they would have to prove it was the lifts fault if you had a problem with the truck. It is funny, but I learned alot of sneaky stealership service dept. techniques from my old ladies VW jetta 2001, supposed 2 have the 10 yr 100,000 warranty and at 83,000 a bunch of sh$t started to go and we battled for awhile.. Of course the toy stealer said it would be diff. with the taco. so I'll have to wait and see...

 

Well actually that was one thing a few dealers tried to entice me with, the oil change thing. A Nissan Deaer was giving $1250.00 cash back and a 7 day cruise to the Caribbean leaving from Charleston where I live! As it stands I got a $1,000 cash to customer rebate and a lot of cash off the truck dealing with 9 dealers.

Oil is one thing I demand I do myself, I know I will do it right and I only use Mobil 1 Synthetic and the best oil filters, being a biker I have done probably way too much research into oil: http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html. AND...most imortantly, I put all the bolts and screws and skid plates back where I found them...unlike the dealers, or mechanics or especially jiffy Lube and the likes.

Ohh by the way, everyone changes their oil (Synthetic) waaay too often http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/mobil1.html Check all the research.

 

Bought my Tacoma at Beaver Toyota in Santa Fe (about 50 miles away) and live about 5 blocks from American Toyota in Albuquerque where I get all my service, the service that I don't do myself.

I just purchased a 2012 V-6 TRD, and get 18+ mpg each fill-up (three so far). Mix of highway, town, and off-road for all three fill-ups - about 1050 miles right now. Maybe Toyota really has re-tuned the V-6 in anticipation of the upcoming new CAFE standards? It has the stock B.G. Goodrich tires (actually everything is stock), so when I put the 275/70 16s on, we'll see if it changes.

I have noticed my 2012 gets around 2 MPG better than the 2010 I had also.I wonder if the MPG gain is
