Removing stock radio

Im taking out my stock radio and cant figure out how to get it off help me!! 95 toyota tacoma

 

take the dash apart. then 4 screws are holding the radio in unbolt it then pop connectors off. assuming you know how to take the dash apart.

 

yahhh no this is my 1st time taking it apart

 

o in that case in front of the shifter there should be a lower portion of the dash that has 2 clips 1 on either side. probably black pop those clips out they may break but advance or autozone has replacements. then 3 screws are removed one is located under the ashtray then 2 behind the climate control knobs. the climate panel knobs all just slide off. 1 screw on either side. disconnects the wire from the cigarette lights plugs. give a pull on the lower part of the black vent surroundings and it should pop right out. if not post up pictures and TW can look at it and help.

 

take off knobs and switch caps from the climate control panel

pop off plastic cover with the climate control pictures on them and slide out a/c button

there should be 2 screws holding the plastic dash trim on, one at a 45 degree angle tucked up in the top left corner and one in the middle on the right side

go to the bottom plastic piece with the cigarette lighter and that little cubby area that touches the floor and on each side there is a plastic clip, its a round plastic nail thing inside a plastic ring, push in the circle in the middle of the plastic ring and pull the plastic piece away, the plastic locking nail will fall down and you can pull out the ring, after you do that to each of them pull away that plastic piece so you can pull out the dash trim

after those are taken out use a flat head and pry the whole plastic dash trim out. you will need to disconnect the emergency light connector and any other connectors

you can now get to the bolts holding the radio brackets on. there are 4 bolts, 1 in each corner, tucked back in there. unscrew thoes out and bam, you can now pull out the radio.

Not sure how much it changed from your '95, but here's a copy of the "Master Sheet" Crutchfield provided when I bought my stereo. (It's listed as being for 1998 and up Tacomas, but page 2 looks a lot like what Mark described.)

 

the only difference between the 98s to 95/96s is there is not a bolt on the "power access panel",the actual whole plastic upper trim piece is smaller, and there are not 2 additional 12v accessory ports, and for some reason my 96 does not have that little cubby below the radio. its an after marketdeck but it still bolts into the same bracket as the stock radio so i dont why the hell it has a plate cover instead of the cubby. OP, or anyone with a 95/96 do you have a cubby under the radio or a plate cover? if so where did mine go.
