No locked ankle and toes out can cause your toes to break in my style. For more power, you want the toes back and the ankle locked so that you hit with the blade of your foot. Your toes should never make contact (at least in MMA). If you want kick momentum that would come from a spinning kick.

    Front kick

Now if what you were doing is your version of a roundhouse (I'm guessing it was a front kick from the position of your body and head and left arm) then your body should be more to the side (or horizontal) as with your head for more power. Again, ankle locked and toes back to expose the blade for contact. In practice, you would use toe out so as to not hurt your training partner.

I apologize if it seems that I am telling you that your kick is wrong, it probably isn't for what you need it for. It's just that I always told my students that they need to protect the ankle and toes.

it was an outside head kick not a straight kick. like in tae kwan do you step in with your grounded foot pointed outward heel to target bring the knee in across a sweep and snap the shin outward. i was trying not to kick him in the face though because he was letting me do something sketchy enough already :(.. it looks weird in the photo but it would have been shin contact to face.. definitely not my brittle bones on the bridge of my foot

Like I said, it's only my style. I've never heard of an outside head kick. From your description it would be more like a roundhouse in my style, with that snap. But my body would be more horizontal for power.

I respect that. I have never had formal training except for some boxing but again i used to fight alot in orange county because people are stupid and cant go a day without picking fights. it definitely suprises people when i kick them in the jaw though while were standing face to face.

lol... actually i never was happy to fight... i was just happy to win and not get hurt. i think fighting unnecessarily is pointless and i haven't been in a fight in about 2 years since i moved out of orange county.

I'm glad that you were able to take care of yourself. You have to do what you can to survive and not take abuse. Hey, either way, you have some pretty good stretch for not being formally trained. :)

If ever I meet you, I'd be happy to show you some real quick disabling take downs. :D
