I've had alot of issues with my 2011 that I got in August. Went to the dealer yesterday to complain about them not changing my oil at my 5k interval and saying that it was synthetic that should be changed at 10k. Long story short:

I was offered a 2012 at dealer wholesale. 2012 TRD Off Road, fully loaded with entune and all. MSRP $34k. Offered to give it to me for $28,500. My payments would stay the same, but add three months onto the end. Long run, the upgrade would cost me like $800 out the door. Dealer then told me he would honor the deal when the redesign comes in 2013. No pics, but said that they were redesigning the entire truck and that the new front end on the 2012's showed basically where it was going. He told me that the trade in would be a couple thousand less in another year, but that he would work it as best he could.

I know that the dealer is not trying to screw me, he's trying to make me happy, and literally not making a dollar on the vehicle.

Has anyone else heard of this? 2013 Gen 3? He said that they were changing the camry a bit too even though they just "completely redesigned it". I wouldn't believe it if it was just a salesman, but this was the owner of the dealership himself.

I wouldn't believe anybody unless they had pictures. Even then I would be skeptical. The FT-86 had pics and was supposed to come out every year for the last couple. With the 2012, so many people heard something about it but really nobody knew anything until Sept 2nd when the official announcement came out.

Maybe it's because I'm in the military, but I don't believe anybody that says if you wait a year I will hook you up then because he could be gone, retired, transfered or whatever by then and you are stuck with a broke truck and an empty promise. I might take the 2012 if the deal is now and available for sure. After all, you could wait an entire year and find out it's the same truck they have now. It would be nice to wait for the redesign, but they are so quiet about that stuff I don't believe an owner of a dealership would know for sure when the new one is comming out and believe it to be too soon for him to know what it looks like if it was comming in a year,

Hmm wouldn't surprise me @2013. I think it's about time for a new taco.

if you are having that many problems with the current truck, i say take the deal now. without knowing what the redesign is going to look like, you never know. delays happen, it might be ugly to you.

Take the 2012. Sounds like a fair deal to me. You said your payment would be the same, $800 is nothing in the long run. There is no guarantee that there will be a redesign in 2013. Alot of people don't like the '12; I personally dig the changes that they made. The new interior and entune is worth the 8 hundy alone. If and when they do redesign and you want to trade up for it, the '12 will be worth more than the '11. The $800 bucks only really matters if your going to keep the truck forever. Plus you get that new tacoma smell all over again. Just my $.02, good luck.

    Good luck.

I for one, do not get caught up in the whole "I want to buy one now but afraid a new model will come out tomorrow" thought. That goes for electronics, cars, wives, etc... (just kidding about the wife part)

Bottom line is, if you believe that, it is easy to get caught up where you afraid of buying anything IMO.

That being said, it isn't likely that anybody outside of Toyota headquarters even knows about a redesign for 2013. It wouldn't make business sense because so many people believe in what I just stated above and sales would tank for 2012 models. Most likely, even the dealerships don't know a thing.

Once, I was looking at a GXR1000, and the sales man swore up an down that a new model was coming out for the next season. Well, sure enough the model didn't change for two or even three more years after that.

5-10 minutes of online research puts you with more knowledge then most employees at the dealership. Just sayin......

Yeah, I know that if I wait, I fish loosing out. All I can say to that is that I don't think he's going anywhere...the dealership is named after him. And his sons that would take over are aware of the deal. The 11 isn't in bad shape, just more TSB's than I thought I would have to get fixed in 5 months. They are also happy to perform any work I request with virtually no questions asked.

He said that he hasn't seen it, but was told that it was the reason behind the small quantities of 2012's that they have been receiving.

Riiiight. I completely trust that the earthquake in Japan and the flood in Thailand had nothing to do with it. The 2012 body style will stay for a couple more years, simply because Toyota needs to recoup the tooling costs. Each of the molds and dies for the hood and bumper easily costs six figures.

If you care about reliability, you wouldn't want a new model in its first year on the market. Statistically the 2005 Taco had the most problems (though still better than the competition).

I highly doubt toyota would come out with gen 3 a year after the 2012 facelift

I never believe anyone about the Gen 3 Tacomas until I see it in person. I still dont get why they changed the front end of the 2012 if they would be doing a complete redesign in 2013? Why have just a 2012 with a different front bumper and thats it? Kinda dumb just changing something for 1 year.

What surprises me is the Camry and 4Runner's have been on a more frequent redesign schedule than the Tacoma's. Hell, even the Highlander and Rav4's seem to be redesigned more often than the current run Tacoma's.
