Feds try to ban ALL cell use while driving

The fed is going to try to change the law and ban cell phones while driving, even hands free. I say good luck with that. I won't stop using my handsfree regardless of the law.

I'm all for it. It would make the road a safer place.

 

I dont even have a hands free, one thing i love about my shitty blackberry is the speaker phone. But i'd like to see how they pull that off. If they ban electronics they might as well ban radio as well. I have a friend that drives fine on the phone, hands free or not but when she turns on the radio scary shit happens, "I get into the music" she says...

 

Sounds good to me. I never use mine while driving.

 

NHTSA actually can't ban. They can only make suggestions to the states.

I never did buy a hands free device. Just pull over now.

I don't know how they would ever enforce it. Probably would only come into play if someone wrecked while on the phone.

Complete and utter nonsense, not to mention un-enforcable. Just one more attempt by the government to inject itself into places it doesn't belong.
I am all for increasing penalties when your actions cause damage to others but some people can actually handle doing 2 things at once. Those that can't should be responsible enough to prioritize. If they don't, string em up. Penalize those that cause problems, not everyone just to try to prevent problems.

Banned here also, hard to enforce when you see patrol driving around yapping on the phone when flipping the lights on to go thru the red light

 

I feel hands free is not a problem. I don't understand why it is on the table to start with. I also don't see how the "law" can be enforced with the equipment that is out now. Newer cell phones might be rigged to not work but I will never let go of my droid if thats the case. I am on the phone a lot while driving and use hands free. When I had to hold a phone up to my ear, something changed and it was a little different. I don't like people using the phone manually, they "slow down thinking wise" for some reason.
GPS can be a big distraction sometimes but they are not talking about those. I see women eating,talking,putting on make up, and drinking coffee while driving in the mornings while going to work. I am not a danger to anyone.

 

Hands free makes sense to me but the fact that the FEDERAL GOV is wasting its time with this subject should concern all of you. Just more proof that they are over extended with priorities that are severely skewed.

 

Using your cell without hands-free is banned in Cheyenne as well.

For me, it's not a matter if it's an important call or not but it helps me stay awake on long drives. Work commute or picking up/dropping off my son for visitation exceed 1 hour + one way across the open plains and gets old fast. Listening to music, eating, and energy drinks don't help much. I don't use a cell in towns but when I get out to the wide open spaces, I'll use my cell or bluetooth (if I remember to bring it). Gonna try getting integrated bluetooth for my truck soon.

it is kinda funny though, the same people that think they can multitask while driving (even if it's just dialing a number) think they're the only ones on the road with out realizing that there are other "professional " multitaskers on the road. So buried in their own little worlds that they don't realize those other drivers can also make mistakes, and it only takes a fraction of a second for one of them to make a mistake... "i looked away just for one second and they came outta nowhere"

those same people that argue they won't stop messing around on their phones, same ones fumbling with it and slowing down in traffic, swerving.

I love my BT on the Pioneer AVH-3200. Never have to lift a finger to answer incoming calls or hang up after. I rarely dial out when moving, when I do, the touch screen is easy to work.

 

great idea...too many people causing accidents

 

I think it's a good law. They should pass it. Too many idiots out there.
