I was about ready to do this mod. I took my tacoma to toyota today and they put a new motor in with a noise reduction kit in the blower motor. We will see if it works as they have a fix for the issue.

My blower motor is making this sort of cricket-ish chirping noise with a slightly quieter constant squeal. It's bad enough for me to drive around in -12 F temperatures a few days ago with the heater off for most of the ride, I just couldn't stand the noise anymore. My poor mom, meanwhile, was freezing to death and is unable to hear pitches that high so didn't understand why I'd rather freeze than turn on the heater... it wasn't pretty.

How long does it take them to replace the motor?

It's a 4-hour round trip for me to get to the nearest dealership so if I can get them to make sure the parts are in and I only have to drive up there once it'll really make my life a lot easier. Of course, this also goes along with them fixing the obnoxious windshield noise. Ugh. I don't regret buying a Tacoma, but these two issues are nagging at me. I've really gotten a bad taste in my mouth as far as dealerships are concerned.

Well, I got the new blower motor installed today. I know I said I would take mine apart & clean it & wait to see if the new motor really lasts. Yesterday I was at my local dealer. I told the service manager my blower motor was chirping again after #2 was replaced on 10/27/10. He said even though it is past 12 months, he told me Toyota would pay for the new TSB motor if I paid the half hour labor for removal/installation of the new one. I agreed to do this & had it replaced this morning. Finally, peace & quiet!!! Kudos to Steve the service manager at Toyota of Santa Cruz!! He was a pleasure to deal with again.

I think my truck is starting to have this problem. Just so I'm clear this noise would be coming over near and under the glovebox?

Yes, the noise would be coming from under your glovebox. It sounds like a chirping or clicking noise when your fan is set to the lowest 2 speeds.

I've got only 2,500 miles and mine just started chirping. It's a 2011 model so it probably has the older fan.

I'll be visiting my local dealer soon.

YouTube has several. Here's my favorite:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFEMNAm5ARM

Mine's not that bad (well, maybe if I was doing 100mph it would be?). I talked to the service manager at the dealership yesterday. He said he hadn't heard of this particular problem and I gave him the TSB number but it wouldn't come up on his computer. He said he'd talk to the service technicians and see if they had heard of anything like this, and in the meantime he'll try to figure it out and order whatever he needed to fix it. I might call him back and see if I can email the TSB to him.
