So i took my truck in today to get an oil change and since im at 116 000 miles they told me i should think about doing the "120 000 mile maintenance" which includes the everything listed: they want about 950$ for it all
    Replace engine Rotate
Replace limited-slip differential oil, if equipped (4WD and PreRunner)

    Replace spark plugs 6
    Re-torque propeller shaft bolt
    Replace engine air filter
Replace cabin air filter (if equipped)Inspect the following:
    Automatic transmission fluid
    Ball joints and dust covers
    Brake lines and hoses
    Brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs 7
    Drive shaft boots (4WD)
    Engine coolant 8
    Exhaust pipes and mountings

    Front differential oil (4WD)
Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank band and fuel tank vapor vent system hoses
    Fuel tank cap gasket
    Radiator, condenser and/or intercooler
    Rear differential oil
    Steering gear box
    Steering linkage and boots

I was looking for options on this. Is this something i for sure need to do or are there specific parts that can be left out? I dont know to much when it comes to engines and cars so some advice would be greatly appreciated

At any rate that looks like a typical every 30,000 mi type list. I recently hit the 30k mark on my 2010 Tacoma. Called my regular dealer got a quote of $310 + tax, when I got to the dealer they changed the quote to $540 + tax! Claimed a misunderstanding regarding what was covered in 30,000 mi service. At any rate I said no thanks, called another dealer my father had good experience with (he had an 07 Tacoma) they quoted $320 + tax for everything. I actually decided to do the service myself.

I think you should consider doing it yourself but if not, $950 is such a rip-off I would consider it robbery. You should be able to get that service for around 325 + tax...(unless I'm missing something)

LMAO got ya. Surfing the web at work then suddenly OMG their are boobs on your desktop! LOL!

At the place I used to work at they had software called ghost something. We determined that it took desktop screenshots every 30 seconds...so you had a small window for looking at boobies. LOL!

Much of those items can be done by self or with help of a 1/2 handy friend. Some or just "inspect" type. Don't neglect but don't get conned into things you don't want to do.

I had a 92 toyota paseo that I got rid of last year.

Other than wear items nothing was replaced. (brakes, tires, oil, spark plugs). Loved that car, daughter drove it for a couple of years, got rid of after she was run into a couple of times.

Regarding necessity of some of these services my father had an 07 Tacoma with ~220,000 miles. He swears he never changed the spark plugs once (LOL). We are thinking it got done around 100k miles in a dealer service possibly but it definitely wasn't done more than once.

I have heard of people doing it but I definitely wouldn't run past the recommended 30k on the spark plugs your truck will run like . You can do the plugs yourself in 30 min though it's really easy on these.

I don't know I drove his truck plenty of times it was running fine. That was probably 120k miles after his last spark plug change LOL! No appreciable loss of gas mileage or anything.

This ^. Not only did they want to rape me on the cost of service but they couldn't even figure out what was in my rear differential. I said to the advisor, "hey do I need this rear diff fluid changed? I don't think I do bc it actually has an open diff with auto-lsd..." He goes and talks to a tech, comes back and says my truck has a mechanical LSD. I say no I don't fink so guy. He then brings something up in his computer demonstrating my vehicle has a mechanical LSD. I tried to explain to him that they quit putting mechanical differentials in non-offroad model's before my 2010 model...eventually I decided I didn't care.

There is no guarantee that whomever does your service isn't a total jacknut.

    OMG LOL.

I think for $950 they pull your engine, do the complete 360 degree rotation overhaul, and then replace. That and maybe they throw in a complementary flux capacitor service (at that price they should be).

    ROFL.

It was a hot scantily clad woman until some people jokingly complained...

I do appreciate GeatWhiteNorth's attempt at humor though.

I recommend the Toyota maintenance for one reason, they use oem toyota parts. I've seen a lot of crappy parts on some toyota's where the customer wanted to save money. or shoddy workmanship, because the person that worked on the vehicle didn't have the right know how to do the job. Fact of the matter is a Toyota dealer charges a higher amount, but should be trusted because thats what they specialize.

I will however admit that a few items that are included in the packages are "fillers" they just make the customer feel they are getting what they pay for.

Also don't replace anything you don't need to, if it ain't broke.. dont fix it!
