I'm thinking on getting one of these for Christmas. Is the Hero2 worth the extra $150? Costco has the original for $140.

Is it the 1080 or 960? The differences in 960 and 1080 are no back port & a couple of resolution choices. Lens, body, mounts, battery are the same. FWIW I hardly ever record in 1080 for file size.

I have the 1080 & did buy the 2 due to a sweet deal offered here by whipper from his sema trip. The 2 is a very nice upgrade to my original for some upcoming options, remote, wireless capability.
The firmware interface is more inituitive & not as cryptic though I'm old geek command line trained so it did not alienate me using the codes.
I also like the improvements in the lens for low light shooting.
Depends on what you are using it for I guess. Glad I bought the 2.
If the price is 140 for the HD 1080 run to the store.

I just checked it out at Costco, it's the 960. It's for my Dad. He'll probaly mount it on his boat, ski helmet, ect. for everything. Do you think the 960 will get the job done? Or is the Hero2 that much better?

The 960 will definitely get the job done.
It is a good camera. Is he savvy with software, digital cameras in general? Once you get use to the codes & how it operates (eye of mine has great online tutorials & setup on youtube just google eye of mine) it is easy to operate. But there is a learning curve.
The Hero 2 has another level of close up which is nice & a hdmi port so watching directly on a tv is much easier.
I dunno tough call. The interface on the hero 2 is easier more intuitive imo but more expensive.

Hey thanks a lot! I had no clue it was that easy!! Here is a quick, crappy video I just made, I have a new computer with no music on it, so the audio sucks, but I'm just excited to find out it was that easy. LOL

Not best quality. But got this from my GoPro. Thought it was sweet.
