Just in the last couple of days, I noticed when I am turning my steering wheel I hear a winding spring kinda noise. That is the only way I know how to describe it. Anyone have any suggestions to what this may be?
    Thanks in advance.

Ha, I understand that was a bad description, but I am not sure how else to describe it. if you compress a spring in a flashlight or other device it makes a sound. almost like your winding something up? I don't know.

Do you mean like an old screen door spring when it streches out kind of noise?

I know exactly what noise your talking about. My truck doesn't make it, but my Dad's F150 does. I'm not really sure what causes it. I figure it's the two plastic components on the back of the wheel assembly that rotate on each other.

My old car did that when it was cold when starting up sometimes. I think it was plastic between the steering when turning.

LOL, I nailed the sound, but I have no idea what it is. Hope that helps people figure it out of you though!

This sound is actually coming form the steering wheel itself not the front end. An earlier reply nailed it as far as sound. It sounds like a spring on a screen door when you open it. I turn the wheel all the way left or right and I get the sound. Like it is coming from the space in between the steering wheel and the housing around the steering column.
