I am getting horrible mileage...

I live on flat land. I have a 2011 Tacoma V6 2x4 Off Road edition truck. The only "mod" I've done is putting a aFe Stage 2 Si intake. My mileage was just as bad before I put it in.

I had an 06 PreRunner plain jane that I traded for the 11. I was getting nearly 400 miles per tank. Now, I am lucky if I get 275 per tank. Could the tires on the Off Road edition make that much of a difference? I am getting consistent mileage every time.



Is this normal or can something be wrong with the truck?

I already have to bring it in for the blower chirp and rust on my bumper. Only have 2800 miles on it.

 

You either have a REALLY heavy right foot or somethings not right. My 06 OR/DC with 3" lift, aggressive tires and a heavy ARB bumper gets "bad" mileage at 16mpg. That is 95% highway driving. There are lots of guys on here claiming to get 20 but I've never even come close. I have read on here that mileage will improve on a truck with low km like yours. BTW - blower chirp? Are you supercharged?

 

As you can see, I use Cruise Control. I drive like a grandpaw. It is pissing me off.

Can the dealership run the computers to see what's going on or is this something that I am stuck dealing with?

 

There's been a few claims of this bad mpg with a new taco, mine on the other hand is the other way around. I started out getting 18 - 21 mpg now I get about 17 - 18 sometimes, my truck is only 3 months old with 4k miles on her. I would say there's definitely something wrong.

 

How many miles? Mine didn't top out with MPG for a while.... I started around 16-7 and settled on 19 after maybe 1000 miles or so??

 

thats the mileage i get being regeared and having a heavy foot on mine all the time.....sounds a bit off

 

I'm having the same problem, I used to get 325-360 miles on a tank. Now I can barely get 285.

I have stock Dunlops, and I don't floor it at every light. Something is just not adding up..

 

I get about 16-17 in my 05 and i beat the piss out of it.... My Mom has a 2011 and gets around 18-20. My oppinion that there is something wrong... But I also could be wrong

 

thats about what I get. Winter gas blows. I miss my '95 taco .. same miles per tank (almost) and a lot less gallons

 

I use to get 20 mpg but when i switched to 35's I went down to 14

 

I get 20 mpg overall. If I am on the interstate going 75 mph it will fall off to about 16 mpg. The strange thing I've notice is this. I live about 1 mile from the main highway and the road slopes down hill slightly. All previous and current vehicles I own I can slip it in neutral at the top of hill and then have to break when I get to the driveway. With the Tacoma it will stop half way and I have to put it back in gear to get there. This situation will definetly cause the mpg to go down and i think is probably partly do to the tires since I am only traveling about 40 mph. Traded the BFgs earlier the year for perellis. It didn't seam to change. Anybody experience this or have any ideas on what causes it? Just Doesn't seam right.

 

Same question as the other guy, is it an oiled air filter? You might of got oil on the MAF. As well, do you idle alot? I know for a fact that it isn't no diesel, and idling KILLS mileage.

 

I get about 18-20mpg when driving 'normal'..

I get about 13-15mpg when driving 'lead foot'

I did notice my truck got better MPG after 1000 miles was put on it.. seems to be getting a little better as it breaks in more.. I'm at 1800miles.

i'm down to 17, i was getting 19-20 during the summer. it was like a light switch. I'm guessing it was something to do with the cold weather and winter gas. My driving hasn't changed.

 

When do they start this "winter blend"

 

13-15 local and 19-21 hwy with 35's

 

My '06 gets 17.4 mpg consistently. No matter how often I reset my Ultra Gauge or whether I use winter/summer gas. Mileage dips just a bit during the summer when I run the a/c everywhere I go. I have an AP bumper front and rear with a winch, sliders and 33" tires, too. Not regeared. Something's up if your new truck is getting that low of mileage. Since I bought it in '06, I've never gotten more than about 330 mpg, usually filling up right around the 300 mark.

 

Winter gas, 4x4, Traction Control (on or off), manual vs. auto, tire size, hills vs. flat, idle, not letting it warm up (winter), highway vs. city, and engine size all play factors in MPG or KPL where i live and this is overall and untill borken in (at least 8000km) it will really be up and down after that its all a matter of the above reasons.

 

oh and i forgot that these are truck if you put some weight in the back, more so in the winter this helps
