    Guys:

Any merit in the KBB or NADA Trade-In Values? My truck shows between $27,554.00 and $28,575.00...

Don't think I'll see this from the dealer but I wanted to see if anyone has something close that they've traded. The dealer is citing the need to certify the truck, which I understand since the cost of mine is near a new one. Pricing on the 2012 is fair at $200.00 over invoice..

    Thanks,

    Rossi

I almost traded in my 08 a few months back and the KBB was about $18-$19k and the dealers where going to give me that. I know the sales manger really well at one of the dealers too.

The dealer will usually offer low trade in value. They'll mark it a few grand up. Used car sales is where a dealership makes money. Not a lot of money in new cars.

According to NADA, my truck is broken down as follows:

    Rough Trade-In: $26,500
    Average Trade-In: $27,825
    Clean Trade-In: $28,900
    Clean Retail: $32,625

Highest offer I have had from any dealer for a trade is $24,500 :goingcrazy: :deadhorse:

I think it is regional & what model you have but here is my recent experience

2006 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 DC, 65k one owner really well kept, pretty much stock. Had extended Toyota warranty.
I do not remember what KBB/Edmunds was but over $20k.
I listed it on Craiglist for $19k. Got a few call, lots of tire kickers.
Had dealers all over the map on trade in.
I really worked trying to sell it privately & the dealers.
Finally got a dealer in Mass to give me $17.5.
Sold all my extras, cashed in warranty, for an extra $2k.
Ended up with $19.5 for my truck.

My old Tacoma is is still on the dealers lot, marked down to $19, 775.
They put new tires & brakes in it & is certified.
    This is in New England.
Probably a better market down elsewhere??
Interested in others experiences as well. The market has definitely changed. The guides are guides, reality is reality.

This looks about right...I was offered 25K. I'm leaning towards doing it for the tax savings (about $1,700.00) and not having to worry about selling it on my own. I figure I'd have to get 29K for it to make it worth my while and at least $26,750.00 to break even from where the dealer is now.

    Good thread here, guys...

Nail down a solid firm price on a new truck before negotiating the trade in amount.

    Yessir...

I always start there. In fact, it's probably better to get there before you mention the trade. The dealers also like to get you sidetracked into what the payment amount will be. You should never let them go there, either!
