Are you suggesting I remove them or amazed that they haven't fell off during the few trails and such that I've done.

I've only had the truck since late August and only really been to Lake Arrowhead/Big Bear so the wear and tear isn't huge.

EDIT: & that picture was taken about a week after I bought the truck.

No, no... I had mine on until it was 5 months old and I was loading the truck for the Mision Santa Maria 2010 run... which I knew would break them off! My 2005 I kept putting them back on after each time off roading would rip them off... or just heavy mud as well... The worst design for mud flaps... unreal. The 2001 flaps were great... rubber, not plastic... never came off.

Yeah...After Jonny and I did the Willow Creek Jeep Trail I noticed they were pretty beat up. I have OCD so I know as soon as I lose one...I'm ripping the other ones off. I do plan on cuttingthe fronts as soon as I get my lift put on. :)

Some people pay $50 each for them, I read here! Mine are on my shelf in the garage.

I wonder why Tundras get a 4WD badge, and we only get mud flaps that indicate we have 4WD!?

What would be cool is a badge that says 4WD and under it, in smaller lettering 'A-TRAC EQUIPPED' (for the Off Road TRDs)... but that's just me! LOL

I've had this thread bookmarked for close to 2 years. Finally had the glove box off to clean the cabin filter and did the yellow wire mod real quick, took 3 times longer to clean my filter than to do the mod. Thanks everyone for the write up/s

I wonder if anyone has tried this mod, but cut the red/blue wire that signals that the truck is in 4Hi. I am going to try it, so that I do not have engine braking in 4wd. and have strong rear limited slip, and at least one wheel drive on the front.

There is no engine braking or throttle inhibiting in 4hi

    Correct!

TRAC in 4WD is the same as AUTO LSD, but on all 4.

TRAC in H2: limited slip with engine regulation.
AUTO LSD (in H2): limited slip without engine regulation.
TRAC in H4: limited slip without engine regulation.

Note *4: Engine outpet is not regulated (in H4 and L4)

has anyone tried this for a 2012? if not i would be willing to try but i think the wire has moved. i get +12V for both the yellow wires when im 2H and 4H but i get 0V when im in 4L. if this is correct and i cut the wire. it will always think im in 4L. or is this wrong?

Do you get 12v from each wire to ground? Or 12v from wire to wire?

Maybe the signal is grounded in 4lo. So if you cut it and the wire isn't grounded it will think it's still in 4hi... I never measured just cut and see. Worse case you have to solder the wire and reset the computer.

i get the +12V from each wire to ground. i will try and get around to cutting it and checking but i was just checking on here first.

EDIT: this mod does work for the 2012 DCLB Sport. its the same wire.

I had the misfortune of learning just how valuable this mod (which I hadn't done yet) was yesterday. I was seriously jacked in the bottom of a desert washout in 4-lo and going nowhere fast. I switched back to 4-hi, hit the go pedal and cranked right out of the ditch. Needless to say I'll be digging out that yellow wire now...
