I heard on the TV just now that Toyota is going to weld a flange to the cats on trucks and also they will inscribe your plate# on the cat itself. I heard this as I was doing radio stuff in the next room-but I think I heard they will also do this free of charge for those who already own trucks? Not sure about that you will have to call. But just putting it out there:)

they're after the I think platinum and (vanaduim?) inside and trucks are the target because of ease of access

Yes, people steal catalytic converters all the time. The metals inside a catalytic converter are platinum and iridium, which are both very expensive metals. The thieves can cut a catalytic converter off in less than one minute if they know what they are doing. They then sell the stolen catalytic converter to a recycler for a couple hundred bucks. I work in the Service Department of a Toyota dealer and our dealer had more than 60 catalytic converters stolen in one night. Thieves always hit trucks and SUVs because they sit higher and are easier to get under.

A good reason to get a set of these:

Is that it makes your cats almost impossible to steal.

I would love to see some fuckup thief try to saw through an ATO skid with a sawzall.

We had 2 catalytic converters stolen off of a work van and F-150 that sit outside at night. They also stole the wheels and tires off the F-150.....but they repalced them with a new style rim and worn out tires. The only reason we noticed the wheels had been changed was because they forgot to tighten the lug nuts on one tire and when we were going to take the truck to the shop to have it repaired the front wheel fell off.......most bizarre theivery I have ever seen.

Consider yourself lucky to be able to say that.
Metal thieves, druggies are after the precious metals used in the cat for resale.
Supposedly the OEM Toyota cat has a higher content of these metals.

Watch out when visiting scrap yards too. I know a few people that had theirs jacked while they were at the scrapyard looking for other parts. Take a look underneath before you leave.

You wont have to look at anything. As soon as you crank it up you will know it is gone.
